I just got a westland terrier today. And everytime I or someone else pets her she growls. What does this mean? Why does my westland terrier growl everytime someone pets her? She's a *****, what do you expect?........No, all kidding aside, she may just be a psycho or have been previously abused. Don't wait too long and get attached to her if this antisocial behaviour continues and you cannot correct it very soon. Otherwise you may be stuck with THE DOG FROM HELL who will cause you untold grief for many years.
Take her back from whence she came if she doesn't shape up.Why does my westland terrier growl everytime someone pets her?
She might just not like being petted- some dogs don't. She could just be not very social either- does she growl when you try to interact with her or just when you pet her?
Oh, okay. Is it that open-mouthed play growl they do when you scratch the right spot? She could just be happy.
Edit- a dog purr is a good name for it. Come to think of it my westie does that as well. Why does my westland terrier growl everytime someone pets her? There are several possible causes. If she was a rescue animal it is possible she was mistreated by her previous owner. She could have a sore on her body and you are irritating it when you pet her.She could feel threatened in an alien environment and needs a few days to adjust.Take it easy with her and let her come around in her time. Why does my westland terrier growl everytime someone pets her?
Do you mean a West Highland White terrier if it is then it is because they are watch dogs and are very protective. You should try to make your dog a little more comfortable by every time you or someone pets her give her a treat! Why does my westland terrier growl everytime someone pets her?All dogs may do that when there is someone new petting it. if its no matter who pets it then give it its favorite treat! or have the person who is petting it be brave and huge or kiss it on the head. this will make the dog think it just wants to be loved! :} say hello to the dog for me! hoped i helped!
