Are crested geckos good pets for teenagers?

I was thinking about either getting a crested gecko, or a Russian tortoise. And I can't decide which would be better. I understand that tortoises are lifelong pets and all that, and I've looked at all the pros and cons and need some help deciding.

Thanks!Are crested geckos good pets for teenagers?Crested geckos are ideal for teens I think....tortoises are a huge amount of work and finding the correct food for them can be a nightmare...the ideal diet for most torts is actually wildflowers and things like that, things at the supermarket can be used but they are usually "fancy" greens and veg and aren't often available year round. They grow fairly big, get demanding and of course can outlive a person. Crested geckos, on the other hand, eat mostly pre-packaged food (though they should get insects on occasion too) are generally much smaller and easier to care for, don't require as much heat and specialist lighting and take up less space. When you move out of your home it will be much easier to take a gecko with you.



Both make great pets and I'm in no way insinuating that you are not capable of caring for a tortoise, but overall cresties are much easier, and they are cute, friendly little lizards.Are crested geckos good pets for teenagers?Russian tortoise is a pretty good pet with two caveats. They are kind of boring and you have to put them in warm water to get them to poop.



Crested Geckos are a bit touchy. Unless this is for an experienced reptile person, I'd be suggesting a Leopard Gecko: Easy, live a long time, low maintenance, eat crickets (cheap from any pet shop). If you handle them often, they are quite tame too.Are crested geckos good pets for teenagers?I would get the gecko. Much easier maintenance which means less work for you. I once had a tortoise, I'm not saying they're hard work but they get pretty boring and don't do much. The gecko's, however, move around much more making them slightly more interesting. Yup perfect and they are lots of fun but they do need a lot of equipment
