Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?

Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?

Just wondering. Lots of people on craigslist complain of it, I personally wouldn't do it but I don't see what the problem is if its not illegal..?Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them? It's not illegal, though it should be. It's immoral. Trading in pets for easy money is disgusting.

I see quite clearly what the problem is. It's the focus on money only with no regard for the animals, their comfort or welfare.

Then there are the people who pick up pets for free and sell them to the universities for research purposes. Those poor animals suffer so much pain.Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?
it is morally wrong. you are taking in a pet to love it and give it a home. not for profitIs it illegal to get free pets and sell them?I don't think that it is, as long as you report your earnings.

However, it is rather immoral. Firstly, selling an animal is not good treatment of the animal at all because it is not only treating that animal as an object, but it is not fair to them or their buyer because the animal needs a secure home and training during the time that they are being passed from house to house. They will likely not be as trusting or loving to humans if they do not have a good strong bond in the beginning.

It is obvious though, why people would have a problem with it. No one wants to pay money for something if they do not have to, especially when it is an animal, because the type of home into which they animal will be placed should be held above who is the highest bidder. Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?
When someone gives a person a pet, they feel that their dog is going to a home of their choice. I wouldn't like it either if I took the time to pick out the right home for a pet only to find out that they sold it to someone else. Who knows what type of people they sold the animal to and what they wanted the dog for. Obviously the person that sold the dog doesn't have the same emotional connection that the original owner had. I just think it is unethical to do something like that.Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them? It's not illegal, unless one misrepresents oneself when one takes a free pet. I imagine most people would not give their pets to someone knowing they would be sold as bait to train fighting dogs or sold to laboratories for research. If someone said that they wanted to give your pet a good home when really they were going to sell your pet, I think that would qualify as fraud. Not that bringing charges after the fact is going to do the animal any good...
It's against Craigslist policy to sell pets on there. But I would never buy a dog from someone who's only selling it for $$. I would support a shelter. Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?
No, it's not illegal, but I think it's downright unethical.

These pets wake up every day not knowing where they are going to be the next night. They have no structure in their lives. They're treated as objects to be shoved from pillar to post simply for money. While I suppose their basics needs are cared for (food, water, shelter), it's hardly an ideal arrangement. An animal needs a loving home.
It is not illegal, it is just totally immoral and wrong!!! Alot of people complain on craigslist is because it is against craiglist policy to SALE pets. You can rehome pets with a small adoption fee. But selling a pet for profit on Craigslist is against policy and that is why adds like that are complained about or flagged. Is it illegal to get free pets and sell them?
morally wrong and bad for the animals what if that person sold them to a man that intended to sell them for a higher price or sell them to asia as a food item or to another country where dogs are fair game for dinner.

not to mention constant re homing and psychological damage done by this the one that first got the free dog doesn't care he just wants a quick buck so hows the dogs health? its mental state?
Unfortunately not.

Too many times I've noticed "free to good home" puppies and small dogs being taken and sold on places like Craig's list in the same day.

The people that took them posted them for high "re-homing fees" on the same day they got them.

Thats just sick.

They're just too lazy to get a decent job. =(
