How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?

I'm thinking about getting this yellow lab/golden retriever mix, but my mom isn't fully convinced yet. The one I want is 3 years old and 88 pounds. She is worried about his size. He is good on a leash and is good with cats and dogs and small children. He is obedience and house trained. She is worried about money, and his size. What do you guys think? Also, how are lab/golden mixes as pets? How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?Considering the fact that this dog already has obedience and is house trained it is an excellent choice. As a professional dog trainer I have trained many of these breeds and find them to be awesome family dogs.

As far as cost and size go, you may have to feed a bit more than a small dog, but you'll find if you buy a quality dog food, which you should for any size dog the amount of food you feed is not excessive. For instance a dog that size would most likely need 1.5 to 2 cups twice a day.

Here is an article on pet food with suggestions to add some real food you already eat which can also keep your dog food costs down: http://www.dogtrainingsandiego.com/2010/鈥?/a>

Vet costs: Really the cost for treatment of a large dog versus a small dog is the same.

I would consider temperament and training as the key factor in deciding to get this dog. Sounds as though this dog has a thumbs up on both. I would recommend this dog as a good choice.

Dogs can add such joy to your life. A Lab/Golden follows the adding bliss to your life factor:

http://www.dogtrainingsandiego.com/2010/鈥?/a>How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
Labs and Golden Retrievers independently are excellent pets so the combination of the two breeds should only make this trait better. The dog that you are thinking of is over the puppy phase and has been exposed to chldren and other animals which shows that his temperment is good. The only thing that you don't mention is if he/she is spayed or neutered and if not then I would highly recommend that you get that done if you go thru this.

Retrievers in general love water, love to play and in general love to be a part of a family. They are very loyal to their family which is a great character trait.

As far as expenses, you would have the cost of spay or neuter if not already done and then the yearly checkups/vaccines and food barring any illness. The yearly checkup and vaccines can be done by mobile clinics usually at a discount or my vet offers a package deal for under $80. So check around for vet care. As for monthly food allowance, I would feed a higher quality food such as Iams or Science Diet and you would probably be looking at around a 40 lb bag every 3-4 weeks which would run you about $30.

Hope this helps...I say go for it.How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?Don't push your mum into something she doesn't want to have. Just respect her wishes, she pays for everything else. Give her time to think about it. I own labrador retriever who is also well trained, they are very good with children and very loyal friendly. BUT think about vet bills, good quialty food which are not cheap. They do need alot of exercises as labradors tends to get overweight easily and its very bad for joints. Labs prones to have joints weakness, its facts. Their coat do shed like crazy you will probably need to groom it regularly and vaccum. If your mother agrees to get this dog, its probably more likely your responisble to look after itHow are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
The fact that he is three years old is the best thing in this situation. Most mixes are not predictable as far as what kind of genetic traits they will end up with. As someone else said, both labs and goldens have notoriously "good" personalities. That being said, people have been bitten by both. Any dog with teeth can bite. It depends upon the training that has gone into the dog.

It sounds like someone has taken the time to show this dog good manners, which is why I say it is good he is 3. You don't have to predict what he will be like as his demeanor now will be the same 2, 5, or even 10 years from now.

Money, I can't help you with. Dogs this size eat a fairly large amount, then there is always vet bills, etc. Again, the fact that he is not a puppy is good. Puppies tend to cost more because they require a lot of veterinary care the first year of life.

His size is of personal opinion. 88lbs is big...but if he is not overly boisterous and jumping on people, then I wouldn't worry too much. I've seen many well-behaved large dogs. How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?Labs and Goldens are both really good dogs. However they do shed, so if you have allergies you should probably pick a different dog. He is a little on the heavy side, so plenty of exercise should get him back into shape. They usuallly cost about $40 a month depending on the food you get. If you decide to get him I would say to stay away from wet dog food because its bad for their teeth and has a lot of fat. Hope this helped.
Both breeds not mixed are superior, so even both breeds together as a mutt, would be just as good. How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
They're really good family dogs, they're smart and learn pretty quick.

I have a dalmation lab and hes about 120 pounds and he sweet as can be.
lovely ,get it.How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
Much better than the shihtzu bull dog mix. These can be real bullchihts!

What brands of indoor bug spray are safe for pets?

I have a major earwig problem indoors and I need to spray the interior baseboards, even though the exterminator sprayed outdoors twice. I have indoor-outdoor cats, as well as chinchillas who share a cage that rests on the floor (about 6" from the baseboards). Can anyone recommend a widely available (like at Wal-Mart or Home Depot) indoor bugspray that will residually kill earwigs and not hurt my pets? Thanks! What brands of indoor bug spray are safe for pets?I'm using Ortho Home Defense Max and we have a cat. I've not noticed any ill-effects, but it does state to let it dry before pets are allowed around the sprayed areas. I don't know about chinchillas. Before you do anything, I would contact your Vet and ask them, bc surely they would know what's safest. What brands of indoor bug spray are safe for pets?None of the above! Actually, you can go to "petcare.com" and maybe they can help formulate a concoction of herbal products that might help. Keep in mind that your pet doesn't have a whole lot of say in the environment you subject it to.

  • Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?

I want to design a gadget that hangs on the wall or something, and signifies if the household pets have been fed or not, for other family members who may wake up at different times. The only trick is...it would have to reset about every 6 hours, otherwise it would still say "fed" when they have to have their evening meal...any ideas?Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?How bout a scale? Feed them when they drop below "x" pounds?

heheHelp me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?
A magnetic whiteboard sectioned into days with mornings and evenings and sections for different pets names... no mess and no dry markers or dusty chalk...Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed? It's called a chalk board. thats how we do itHelp me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?
You can do it either mechanically, such as a card that you can flip up when you feed them and will automatically flip down after a set period, or electronically, just a display that says 'fed' when you push a button and resets itself after a time.

Most people will just us a chalkboard or dry erase board, you can write the time of the last feeding on it and then everyone else will know. You can get a 4' x 8' sheet of dry erase material at a Home Depot (NOT Office Depot) for about $15 and make thirty-two 1' x1' signs. The markers are cheap too.Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?Well, what I have done is put a sheet on the wall for the days of the week and you put a check mark once the animal is fed.

Simple and isnt a gadget so It wont breakHelp me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?
you know how they have thoes signs in windows that they can flip that say "open" on one side, and "closed" on the other? mabye you could make something like that! or mabye, you could set an alarm clock. with my cats, they get fed at the same time every day, and they started coming to me when it was time to be fed. i think a cats internal clock is better than ours!Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?

Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?

I enjoy not picking up animal crap and not having to pay for animal food because it costs too much,

So my question is are we better off as human beings if we don't have any pets?

I know I am what about the rest of society?

There are a lot of problems that comes along with having dogs as pets because they are loud and always bite someone if they are off their leash.

That's just one example with one animal there are more examples with others. Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?Well I personally do not think we would be better off with out pets...Some people only have their pets and that's what helps them through their hardest days! I think pets are very important and yes, some dogs do bite but that is the HUMANS fault not the dogs! If the dog was taken care of properly and trained it would never bite. Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?
Actually, research shows the opposite. People with a cat or a dog as a pet are less likely to feel anxious or depressed. And cat owners are 50% less likely to die of a heart attack than non-cat ownersAre people who have no pets more healthy mentally?Actually you'll find that there's research that suggests that having a pet can RELIEVE symptoms of mental illness.

Taking on the responsibility of a pet is a personal choice, and should not lead to "mental" problems. Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?
Actually there have been studies done that petting animals is an excellent way to relieve stress. I think that people with one or two cats, which are affectionate and clean, are probably the mentally healthiest people on the planet. Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?I know I wouldn't be better off without my pets. I love them, so I don't mind doing things they need and I can afford their food and any possible vet bills that may come up.

My dog has never bit anyone either or caused another trouble, neither have any of the others and I have a lot. I enjoy taking care of them because I love them and it's relaxing for me. They love me unconditionally and they're all sweethearts. They keep me sane! Are people who have no pets more healthy mentally?
I've heard that it actually points to deep- rooted insecurities if you don't like animals. I have eight pets- Moxie (Boxer), Noah (Pug), Abraham (Black Norwegian Forest Cat), Eliza (Black Barn Cat), Daisy (Calico Cat), Callie (Calico Curly- Haired Guinea Pig), Beatrix (Brown Guinea Pig), and Marvin (Black Moor Fish).

What are the laws in arkansas for tenants concerning pets?

I was just wondering where I could find laws regarding landlord and tenant in regard to pets, repairs, and deposits. What are the laws in arkansas for tenants concerning pets? There are no specific laws in any state regarding that because unless it's a service animal, no landlord is required to allow pets at all.

Landlords have broad discretion in regards to the pet deposit.

It's like any other liability...you have the landlord present to do the walkthrough, take pictures, get them developed with a service that dates them, keep the receipt..do the same when you move out. What are the laws in arkansas for tenants concerning pets?Good finance question! I know of an organization that gives up to $1500 to people to help them with their rent or mortgage. It's available in most US cities, I highly suggest you check it out.

Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?

I do. I know some people will say I'm stupid but I don't care. I worked in HR for 4 years and I truly think people should get at least one bereavement day for pets. I am an animal lover with 4 pets and if any of my babies died I'd be absolutely devastated. What are your thoughts?Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?yes i do ... and if they offer it or not, i will just call in sick, so they are paying one way or another :O)Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?
Yes absolutely. I lost my cat who was my best friend. She went out and never came back. I was so

devastated. I asked my employer if I could take a few days off/ He said no. I quit my job I couldn't deal with anything at the time. I could only lay in bed. I know she was taken by a coyote. My employer told me to take a week off after I quit, and told me to reconsider.Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?I agree with you! My pets are like family to me so if one of them died, going to work would be the last thing on my mind. The only downside is that some people could abuse the system by saying that their pet died (when it didn't) just to get time off work.Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?
    No.

    They're not babies, they're animals.

And to equate the loss of a pet with the loss of a child is insulting to any parent.Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?Nice plan you've got worked out but I'm not paying for your time off.Do you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 100 percent ! pepol are devoted to there pets !!!! however maby not if its a gold fish though lolDo you think employers should give bereavement days for the death of pets?
    No.

NO. They are not people. It is a slippery slope.

What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?

The law has made great leaps when it comes to traditional pets, even making dog fight a federal offense. But pets are still seen as property. When they are hurt, neglected and even killed...the offender gets a fine or minimal jail time. Anyone who has and loved a pet, knows that they are another family member. Yet their considered no more then a piece of property? What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?Would be nice to have a legal reconition of the concept that pets are worth more than the price of a "replacement" pet. BUT

One of the worrysome implications of changing that could be the possiblilty of getting court ordered treatment - forceing an owner to bankrupcy to pay for expensive surgery and possibly low sucess rate on a pet. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?
There would be a whole lot less cases of bestiality

But the amount of times it occurs would increase. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?i hear ya they should make stiffer laws for pet abusersWhat do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?
i don't think it would be much better. i think there needs to be a recognition that animals are important and that they are living breathing feeling beings, but animals cannot really ever have rights. they should have the right to not be abused, the right to not be neglected, but since they cannot speak for themselves it could be very dangerous to call it animal rights. just remember that some pit bulls are being saved because they are property. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?I think that people would be charged for murder or attempted murder if they abused an animal. I think it is the way it should be. To be, they do have feelings, they are livings beings just like people.

Is it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members?

Because we put down our pets when they are getting old to put them out of their misery.

BUT most humans keep cancer patients or other terminally ill patients alive and in a lot of pain.

Is the pain they have to go trough (before most of them die anyway) really worth it?

Please post your opinion below. Is it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members? It's just the product of screwball logic (created by equal parts religion/healthcare as big business) that most people don't give much thought to.

I feel that any sentient being that is mortally wounded or terminally ill (i.e. not getting better, and only has an excruciating protracted death to look forward to) has the right to be put out of their misery. Is it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members?
I think thats just because we value human life more than animal life.It is alot harder to see granny die than fido. I do see your point though. If Iwas miserable and in pain all the tiem i'd rather be put down and I have made that clear to my family. I think if my grandparents and parents get to the point their life isnt worth living and theyre on life support id pull the plug because I love them too much to make them suffer because I am not ready for them to go.Is it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members?Honestly, theres a million different opinions for this kind of topic. The fact that people put down their pets seems like it would show less affection as opposed to family, dont you think? Of course, its heartbreaking and very sad, but you know its best for the animal. People who try to keep their family members alive is something totally different. On one end of the spectrum, you want to end all pain youre loved ones enduring, but on the other hand, how could you even think of letting them go when theres a possibilty their life could be saved? A decision most of us will never agree on, even when faced with it in reality. May God save any of us from going through such an experience.

But, in answering your question, human beings will always care for each other more than their pets.Is it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members?
I can see your point as a person who actually loves a pet against humans for example...

my grandma has a Chocolate Labrador got her when she was a pup and i've loved her ever since visiting for the first time we used to sit by the fire with the dogs head on my leg resting as a child and we always used to play outside having fun, now ive gotten abit older everytime i visit my grandparents the dog sees me and gets all excited the point is the other family members never really took that much interest and i couldnt see why when the most freakin awesome dog ever is here and they dont give a rats *** they only care for themselves and family membersIs it me or do humans like their pets more than their family members?A tone of people like their pets more :)

Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?

Should people be allowed to have chimpanzees, tigers, alligators, boa constrictors, wolves etc as pets? Should having a wild, dangerous, or endangered animal as a pet be outlawed?Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?Although I am a Libertarian and although I value human rights over animal rights (e.g., widening a road to ease traffic is more important than a single stretch of habitat for a species that is not endangered, such as leaf litter bugs in Woburn, Mass.), and although I am a strong advocate of property rights, I think that unless the owner could come close to replicating the habitat of the wild animal, it would be wrong to possess it. Thus, if Bill Gates wanted to open up a game preserve, fine, but people shouldn't be keeping tigers in garages. Not only because it would endanger the neighbors but because it would endanger the tiger.Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?
i think that is total bs to keep a tiger without a license and stuff like that butt a snake? really? what can a snake like a boa constrictor possibly do?? now if they are poisoness than that is a whole nother story but cmon people give me a break??

Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?I think it should be outlawed. The only exceptions would be licensed rehabbers, and it is unlikely that these people would (or would want to!) have these animals in their homes.

I just heard on the news that a pet chimp in NJ or Connecticut attacked a guest of the owner, and just went on a rampage, and had to be shot by the police. That isn't fair to the chimp, to the guest, or to the police (or taxpayers for that matter!).

There is too much that can go wrong, and it is highly unlikely that the owners would be prepared.Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?
Yes, having a dangerous or endangered animal should be outlawed. No one should be allowed to have a wild or dangerous animal as a pet. They might get loose and attack someone and really hurt them.Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?i think it is fine as long as they know what there doing and have secure outdoor enclosures then its fine.Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?
it should be legal, and the owner should be liable for damages the pet causes. Does living in a free country scare you?Should people be allowed to have wild or dangerous animals as pets?
no animal like that should be kept without proper licensing and habitat enclosures.

What kinda pets do you have round your kids?

Do you have pets in your house or around your neighborhood that your kids socialize with? What kinda pets do you have round your kids?I am 10 weeks pregnant and when my child is born, s/he will be born into a house full of animals. I heard it was best for them to be around animals at a young age to somewhat help prevent allergies or make the allergiese not as bad. I have 5 small dogs, 3 cats, 2 bearded dragons, 2 guinea pigs, 2 flemish giants (20 pound bunnies), and outside we got one goat, a million pigs, a turkey, pigeons, and more bunnies. I live in the same house as my mom but we split it so on her side of the house she has more animals. What kinda pets do you have round your kids?
I'm not a parent, but I do have a dog who gets borrowed by the local kids all the time.

She's a sweet little mixed breed ball of fluff - Pomeranian and Jack Russell - who weighs 12lb so she's very popular with all the children who live near our house. I let them walk her on a lead on the street and play with her in the garden.

The kids who play with her are from age 6 up to age 12, and they're all very gentle and caring. One of them rescued a kitten (or so he says) and I remember them trying to nurse a dead pigeon back to health.

As a child I had a rabbit (re-homed because apparently it kept biting me, not that I can remember), two gerbils, fish (I accidentally killed them :( ), a rabbit again and a parrot. Now I'm 17 and I have a cat and a dog.

I think it's important for children to be taught how to act around small animals - how to conduct themselves, how to care for them, and they should be taught that animals feel pain just like we do, so it's not nice to torture or play rough with them. It's important that the next generation know how to care for and respect their pets, and don't end up repeating the same cruel mistakes of the past.

I've noticed that people who are compassionate with animals tend to behave better around people, and have higher emotional and social IQs. Plus, nothing makes children happy like a puppy.

If you're considering introducing your children to animals, look up the species online first. There are certain things that frighten them, and certain ways to behave around them. For example, when meeting a new dog, the child should offer their hand, palm down, to the dog to sniff (after asking the owner for permission, of course).

If you're considering buying a pet, take the whole family down to a rescue center :) there's nothing more rewarding in the whole world than stopping cruelty and saving a life. What kinda pets do you have round your kids?2 dogs (2 year old Lab %26amp; 6 year old Pug)

    2 cats (1 year old %26amp; 7 week old)

    2 betas (fish)

They also socialize w/ the rabbit, horse, dogs, goats, and cows at my parents house and the neighborhood peacocks (that belong to my SIL's parents down the road). What kinda pets do you have round your kids?
We presently have two collie dogs - one who thinks he is above the youngest child in the pecking order and the other who knows he is below. Both play really nicely with him.

In the past we have had a lab/springer dog, two cats, a rabbit, lots of guinea pigs, goldfish and a hamster. We had lots of chickens too, but we did not replace them after the fox got into the shed and killed them all - we were all too upset.

The rabbit was the only one they did not get on with as he did not like to be handled.

We have horses in the field behind our garden and cattle over the road. What kinda pets do you have round your kids?Since my daughter was born, we have lived with:

cats, dogs, aquatic frogs, and fish

Through friends and family she has also socialized with:

ducks, a goose, a pig, and lizards. I also took in a snake for a few days.

I hope that soon we will make friends with someone who lets her get to know their horses and cows. I grew up on a farm and it's actually hard for me to see my daughter grow up without bottle feeding a calf or helping the horses reach the grass from the other side of the fence or going out and picking which egg she wants for breakfast. - My poor deprived child!
Last summer we had 4 turtles, 150 blue crayfish, 3 different types of catfish, 4 piranhas, 3 dogs, two crabs, an eel, and 2 other fish. They loved it they thought they had their own zoo in the house and would bring all of their friends over to show them off. They helped with all of them including cleaning the tanks! What kinda pets do you have round your kids?
My kids are 3yrs and 18 months. We have two cats. Once my kids get a bit older (5yrs old) we plan on getting a dog. Right now they go next door and play with the neighbours dog. I have been considering getting a few fish for my son. They say they are a good starter pet and are good for teaching kids responsibility. I am still debating about if I am ready to clean a fish tank %26amp; a littler box =)
Oh goodness we have a Pit Bull, Sheltie/Lab mix, Shepherd mix, Cockapoo(poodle cocker) Scarlett Macaw, cockatoo, ball pythons (snakes) mice, three guinea pigs, a rabbit, two hamsters, about a half dozen cats. (I'm thinking of opening up a zoo)What kinda pets do you have round your kids?
    We have 5 dogs,

The daddy is a dachshund, pomeranian, Chihuahua mix

The mom is a jack russel mix, not sure what though

The two babies are a mix of the mom and dad

And another mutt we just picked up recently, not sure what he is but he looks like a cow.
My son's 2-1/2. We have two 6yo dogs - a choc lab and a lab mix. Around the neighborhood and at grandparent's houses he's around other dogs (lab mixes, beagle, shitzu, schnauzer), cats, goats, chickens, ducks, and cows.
we used to have fish but they kept dying, now we have a cat and they love her. It also helped teach them some responsibility because they are responsible for feeding her and brushing her we leave the litter box for my fiance
    2 dogs, 2 cats, and a turtle.

I think it good to socialize small children with pets so that they don't have any fears. It also teaches them responsibility.
    Dogs mostly,

But I would advise any parent/carer to make sure their child is socializing with safe animals and insects as much as possible and preferably have quite a bit of knowledge on them. It will help alot more than you think..
Well there are lions, elephants, tigers ect round our way but my kids never socialize with them.

We have 2 rotties(Tessa and Medusa) and thats it.
My daughter is 2, and we have an American Bulldog, 2 cats, and we had 2 rats that passed away last year.
We have 2 chihuahuas and a dachshund. 3 aquariums, one of which is his, and let's not forget his hermit crab.
my parents since ive been born weve had

4 turtles 1 bunny 12 cats (not all at the same x)

    like 8 dogs(different times)

and now we have to dogs a pitbull with lab and a small puppy that we found
we have a puppy (7 months old) a cat and a fish. The puppy and cat love the kids.

Why is my Sim in The sims 2 pets still a werewolf?

In my games of the sims 2 pets, i made my man a werewolf for a laugh. I used a lycanthropy potion in the night when he was a werewolf, he drank it and it looked like he changed back. But he didn't. He still looks like a werewolf however he can not drink any more potions because it thinks he's a human. Can anybody help? Why is my Sim in The sims 2 pets still a werewolf? You could try a cheat object which can alter the life state of your sim.

The only one I am aware of is the insiminator, but the site was taken down and the only copy on the net that I know of is unsupported. So you might want to weigh up killing off your sim against installing this hack, which could potentially create all kinds of other problems.

Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?

i want a kitten badly. someone list reasons why they are cool and awesome pets to have. i want to show this to my mom so she will maybe change her mind.Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have? Here is a reason of why cats are good, but word of advice, get a female because they don't spray over everything! :)

    1. They are cheaper than dogs, and more worthwhile than rodents.

    2. They are cute, and playful.

    3. You don't have to let them outside at 3 in the morning, and you don't have to take them for walks. :D

    4. They bond with their owner just as much as a dog would, only they show it in different ways!

    5. Cats have litter boxes, so even when you are not home they don't have to be looked after. That way you don't have to come home and let them outside.

    6. Cats are quiet. You don't have to listen to their barking, or yapping. Just their soft, and cute, meows.

    7. If you are worried about your cat at night, just put her in your room, she will end up sleeping with you! :D

    8. If you are worried about when you are at home and you don't want her to get on the counters, then take a spray bottle, (not a squirt gun!) and spray her when she gets up there, say a firm "No!" and take her down. She will learn not to get on the counters, they are easy to train!

    9. They can be very playful, especially the kittens. All cats are special in there own way. They are so unique, you could never be bored with one.

    10. They are independent, and can sometimes do crazy things! But, it is all worthwhile. They will love you to the end, if you are nice, but have some boundaries for them!

    11. They are clean! They give themselves baths, so as long as it is an indoor cat, it won't get dirty. No annoying baths! But, make sure you brush it! :)

I hope I helped! I wish I could have a cat, but we have a dog and no place for the litter box. :(

    EDIT:

One thing you might want to do is pay for half or some of the cats cost. If you can all of it.Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?
Thank you! I hope it works! Best of luck and wishes from me! :D

Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?1. They will always love you, and be a perfect companion.

    2. They love to play, and its very entertaining to watch them.

    3. They don't require a lot of work, just the basics, like giving them food and water, a clean litter box, and attention. They basically do the rest by themselves.

    4. They are very clean animals. You don't have to worry about giving them baths.

    5. They are independent, but loving and affectionate when you want them to be.

Here's some tips on getting the conversation started:

Please rescue a kitten from a shelter, you are saving a life.

They already have their shots, are neutered/spayed, and have a microchip implanted in case kittah gets lost, so you can find them.

Find a time to talk when your mom isnt busy. Try talking about this at the supper table, or maybe while you're watching tv.

Be mature. DONT WHINE OR NAG. this will turn her answer into a definate no.

Bring up those points, and hopefully she will agree.

Also, if you do your homework on kittens and the shelter you plan to get them at, she will most likely agree to this, since you are showing maturity and taking responsbility.

Here's a website all about taking care of young kittens:

    http://parmashelter.org/adoption/advice/…

Good Luck!Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?
Cats are easy to take care of -- easily litter trained (usually 20 seconds after showing them the box). They can be left alone for long periods of time. They are very clean.

    They are playful and amusing.

Taking care of a cat teaches responsibility and compassion or all creatures.

A lot of people are going to give you a host of other reasons, but, to me, this is the most important: Cats are very sensitive to their owners' feelings and emotions. I've been around cats since I was 3 day old, and when I have been sad or unhappy, a cat has been there to comfort me. When I have been sick, a cat has been there purring to comfort me and make me feel better, never leaving my side until I was well. When a cat bonds with you, it is your best friend for life, listening to your hopes, dreams, and fears, with no judgment, just love. And, it doesn't get much cooler and awesome than that.Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?Cats are independent yet still affectionate. They dont climb all over you constantly like a dog (most of them anyhow). They pretty much are very low mainteance. All you really do is feed them twice a day and change their litter box. They arent a huge responsiblity. Please keep your kitty indoors and spay/neuter him/her if you do decide on one. A great place to get a kitty is at a shelter/rescue.They usually already have them vaccinated/wormed/defleaed and may even give you a spay/neuter certificate for free if they arent already. Their goal is to help prevent overpopulation which is now a large problem. They are usually under 65 dollars at a shelter and you save a lot of money instead of vetting them yourself. They also are put down every day b/c of no homes. good luck on choosing the right pet for you!
They don't bark! They love to cuddle, I think they are pretty good at taking care of themselves other than food/water they don't need all that much attention (though you will love to play with them) they can be on their own. Yes it's true they really don't do well with baths but I buy Kitten wipes %26amp; kitten bath wash %26amp; give them a bath like that and their fine with it. Oh and they are so Precious!! Come on mom let him get a cat!Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?
Cats are way less to care for, i.e. don't have to take them for walks, don't eat like pigs (too fast), easy to maintain (grooming), most cats are sociable, and live a long life!

Currently, we have 2 indoor female cats: Twilight who is grey and beige (she looks like a possum) and Pixie is grey with stripes! Our male cat, Covu, passed away in Sept. 2008! We miss him!

Show this info to your Mom and promise her you will "take care" of the cat!

    Good luck!
they are facetious, they need little or no exercise on your part, they are fun to watch when they play. they don't eat too much. they tend to be cheaper than a dog. they tend to be low maintenance.

tell her you will stop bugging her if you get one from a shelter.

and you better be the one to care for it. as in YOU.Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?
I love kittys and even if they didn't do anything for me, I would still keep them....

Having said that, one reason I will always have a cat is because we live in an area that has scorpions and all of my kittys have let me know LONG before I would have noticed them that they were there so I could kill them before I got stung!!
People who own pets are usually less stressed and less risk for heart attacks.

Cats are easy to care for - you don't need to walk a cat, cats can be left overnight or a weekend with food, water, litter pan and no one has to "let them out for potty".
their cute, quiet, good to teach kids responsiblity, they actaully dont shed that much depending on the breed.

heres a quiz you can take to find the perfect breed for your family

    http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto…
They don't bark! You don't have to take them for a walk. They don't eat much. They sleep a lot. They are independent. O.K?
ok they are clean, they like to play, they are fluffy,i don't know i have 2 cats and they are awesome i Love them
they gratify you every day for taking care of them by manifesting their love and affection towards you...

    they boost you self-esteem...

taking care of them makes you more responsible...

they make your life more beautiful...
I got two kittens the other day and i adore them! They're really playful, sweet and loving. But looking after them is a bit like looking after young children :P x
    i hev 3 kittens n 2 cats..

i would say they're extremely cute n cuddly..!!.

    n playful..

Would a miniature horses make for good indoor pets?

My daughter wants one of those cute miniature horses.

Do they make good house pets?

I do have a large house about 7500 square feet, and about 2 acres of grass.

I don't have a barn, so they will have to stay indoors.Would a miniature horses make for good indoor pets?Absolutely NOT! They would need too much room to move around...aside from the fact that they would ruin your floors. Keeping an animal such as that indoors (even in a large house...think about it...how many rooms would it actually have free reign to roam in?) is just cruel. Build a small barn and fence in an area so that it has the ability to roam and run and snack. Let it use its true nature and be a horse...no matter the size. If you can't do that...it is time to tell your daughter to think of another pet that would be more realistic to keep.

Good LuckWould a miniature horses make for good indoor pets?Definatly not!

People do keep them as seeing eye animals, but they are NOT suposed to be pets. They were once wild animals so no. They also would not be happy because they like open areas where they can see outside and don't like to be trapped in a house. Plus it's really hard to potty train a miniature horse. I would get a dog if anything.Would a miniature horses make for good indoor pets?no no no no no no

    Absolutely not

. Keeping an animal like that indoors even in a big house is cruel. Build fence and a barn or somethin at least a small one. it is a horse not a dog they are still horses just smaller they need room to run and be a horse. and it would ruin your floors

tell youerf daughter that she has unreal expectations and if she wants an indoor pet get a dog or catWould a miniature horses make for good indoor pets?
Build a 3 sided shelter, it will be easier than cleaning your carpets.

How do I get Sims 2 Fun with Pets to install properly?

I am trying to install Sims 2 Fun With Pets collection. Every time I do, a message pops up saying "A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'SP1\TSBin\Sims2SP1.exe' from the media. Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?" I have tried retry and the same message keeps appearing. I've hit cancel and ejected the disc and what not. I even tried installing to a new area. What do I do to get it to install properly? How do I get Sims 2 Fun with Pets to install properly?A similar thing happened to me.

    Try this:

Eject the CD and restart your computer. As it's restarting, hold F8. This will make your computer start in Safe Mode - but if the Windows logo appears you've pressed it too late and will need to restart again.

If it's worked the screen should show some Safe Mode options. Use the arrow keys to select the option you want. Then log on to an administrator account. The screen should look something like this (if you're using Vista): http://www.transmatrix.net/Vista/SafeMod鈥?/a>

Then insert the disk again and try to install it. You may need to go into the Computer folder and run the disk from there.

If that doesn't work...try cleaning the disk? Or replace it.How do I get Sims 2 Fun with Pets to install properly? For starters, what the disc is trying to transfer is the Family Fun Stuff Pack itself (its designation is SP1 (SP for Stuff Pack, and 1 as it was the first)). So worse case scenario, you can try going into the disc from My Computer (right-click on the disc drive and select Open) and manually drag-and-drop the .exe file and see if that helps any.

Other than that, could the disc itself be dirty (i.e. a fingerprint)? That is enough to make certain areas of a disc unreadable until cleaned.

What are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?

Or where can I find laws by state regarding squirrels as pets or other wildlife? What are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?If the squirrel was captive bred and you purchased from a reputable breeder, you can keep him in some states, but it is illegal to capture and keep a wild animal as a pet..What are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?
Check with your local fish %26amp; game dept. Most times

keeping a wild animal, like a squirrel, requires a permit.

I know you wont like this but squirrels don't make good

    pets. They just aren't domistacated.

    Sometimes called Australian Flying Squirrels,

there actually not a squirrel. Sugar gliders are

small marsupials. They look like squirrels so maybe

check them out %26amp; see what you think.

Hope this helps. What are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?Check. different, states, countries and provinces have different laws. I don't know where you are! They can carry the plague, Hantiviirus, rabies and a list of things. Unless you gave them shots, kept them indoors and collars I wouldn't even think of it.... But please checkWhat are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?
let them stay wild. peace! What are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?you can own one in texasWhat are the laws on keeping squirrels as pets?
Most squirrel species are not endangered, and it is legal to keep them. They do not, however, make good pets. They need huge areas to excercise in or they develop behavioral disorders. They pee and poop on everything, can chew threw most materials, and can inflict severe bites. It doesn't matter how sweet and loving that little baby you've hand raised seems, he/she WILL change--have no doubt! Release humanely when the time is right.

What are the best pets for teenagers?

I'm 15 and I'd really like to get a pet for my birthday. I want one that needs attention and human-interaction but can be alright alone when I'm at school during the day. I'm open to pretty much all types of pets except reptiles or cats, as my dad is allergic to cats. Any suggestions? What are the best pets for teenagers? You should get a ferret, they're fun and sleep a lot so school wouldn't be a problem.. Or you could go with a dog, they're smart and will love you forever!

Get your dad to take you to the animal shelter, you can pick out a pet together and save a life! :)What are the best pets for teenagers?
I suggest a rodent. Rabbits or guinea pigs are my preference, but any one will be fine. They need interaction but they do not mind being alone sometimes. They do well with at least 1 more of their own species, so it would be best getting at least 2. Don't put different types of rodents together, because they have such different needs that that is dangerous. It is a responsibility in all its ways too. I hope you find the right pet for you. What are the best pets for teenagers?A dog or a hamster. If your getting a dog make sure that your parents are willing to take on the responsibilities of owning a dog, if it is a hamster make sure you get it a big cage so when your not playing with it, it still has a large area to roam.

And please don't listen to anyone who says a ferret or hedgehog. I love ferrets and hedgehog but they are huuuge responsibilities. Both cost lots of money (especially ferrets) and no 15 year old is going to be able to afford 100 dollar vet trips or have a min of 500$ saved up in emergency vet money and a ferret needs at least 4 hours of out of cage play time every day so it wouldnt be good if your away from home lots.

i'd definately go with a dog i think though, much more interactive and would probably be suitable for your whole family. Good luck and happy early birthday! What are the best pets for teenagers?
There are lots of different pets that can be good fits.. but your environment will dictate what you can get. Fish have low interaction, but obviously have no problem with you being gone during the day. A dog may/may not be ok with long periods of alone time.. and you have to consider the amount of time you have to devote to the animal after school.. and the space constraints you have in your home/yard.

That being said, keep in mind you are 15.. which probably means you will be out of the house in about 3 years. A dog lives for more than 10 years in most cases... are your parents going to be up for keeping it while you are away at college? For this reason, this decision needs to be a family one. You need to find out what your parents are willing to take on. Vet bills and food all add up and can be a burden if finances are tight. Don't make a rash decision and regret it later..or make the pet regret it when you dump it at the pound where it will most likely be put to sleep. What are the best pets for teenagers?i suggest rats.they are friendly, loving, cute, and really smart.u can teach them to use the litter box, fetch, and learning their names.thyre like tiny dogs except cheaper.theyre just misunderstood creatures.you do need to get two though if your going to be gone alot because itll become lonley and depressed if it doesnt have a buddyI LOVE RATS !!!!!!!!! ,hope this helps!:)

see thats stupid they read the word rat and automaticlly put thumbs down!
My dad got me a teacup yorkie she's to cute ! : )
. their small and very playful but very expensive their other dogs like a poodles their cute too it depends on which type of breed it is.What are the best pets for teenagers?
Get a Rabbit they are cute tame and loveable! They're cheap and cuddly and they can look after themselves when they want to!
Maybe you should buy a fish or hermit crab. But if ur interested in reptiles you should get a leopard gecko or maybe a garden snake if ur interested in snakes?! Does that help?? ( well I hope so :) ..)What are the best pets for teenagers?
None or stuffed. Teens are irresponsible and grow tired of things fast. So I would never buy or get any tee a live animal.

But this is my own opinion and I am entitled to it.
    A bunny :)

They need at least an hour out of their cage and are very lovable and sweet. Just make sure you bunny proof your home!! :)
gerbils are awesome make sure to bye in pairs they do get lonely and they love to play good luck have fun :)
    A rabbit

Edit: Make sure you get more than one but less than four.

How many pets do you have and how do you know if they're happy?

I just wanted to know how many pets people have. I have 12 guinea pigs, and some baby guinea pigs are coming on the way. well i've got 4 betta fish, 3 leopard geckos, 2 bearded dragons, 2 dogs, 2 parrotlets, 2 budgies, 2 cockatiels, 1 goldfish, 1 crested gecko and a bosc monitor.

i know my birdies are happy because they are always chattering away (not screaming), and they are breeding - they wouldnt breed if they didnt feel happy and safe! - and the same with my lizards!

they seem happy basking on the rocks, but look up if you go into the room.

the doggies wag their tails and run around like mad animals with their toys, the fish swim around slowly, not too slow but not mad :D

the monitor is happiest when he is out of his tank - he loves exploring and loves cuddles, he's happy when his colours are bright, his tongue is flicking and he's jsu generally being relaxed

Do you ever feel as if most of your family active family members are actually pets?

I live around inlaws who are all very kind people and one blood relative nearby. However ALL other relatives live faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar far faaaaaaaaar away.

I鈥檓 not married and I don鈥檛 have any children, so I feel like she鈥檚 my poofy little child. Animals are always so loyal and always there for us. It seems like they never let us down like people do.

Why are certain animals illegal to have as pets in California?

I was looking through good pets to get, and since in California I've noticed a few that aren't allowed here when they are in the majority of states. Sugar gliders, hedgehogs, ferrets...can somebody give me a list of all the animals that are illegal in California but legal in other states and a reason why?Why are certain animals illegal to have as pets in California? There are a lot of animals that are not allowed in California because of the following reasons:

    1. Rare or endangered in California

    2. Will kill off other populations

    3. Will not thrive here

    4. Are not safe.

Go to my source site for a more complete list. Why are certain animals illegal to have as pets in California?Great link Lillix Fair KH/FF

I think the most important reason is that these animals - if they escape and breed in the wild - they will displace native populations of animals, birds, squirrels, etc.

There are too many tales of non-natives species taking over the habitat of native animals. Hedgehogs (egg eaters) have decimated many bird species in the English Channel Islands. The Cane Toad in Florida is poisonous to pets (dogs) and is pushing out native fish/frog species. etc. Then those native animals may actually go extinct because they can not compete successfully. So - some animals are banned for a very good reason!!Why are certain animals illegal to have as pets in California?Because the governmant thinks that they will get out of the cage, and kill all the small wildlife, and breed like crazy. But they dont understand tht ferrets are fixed befire sold from breeders.

    Cali is stupid.

Why do people think good food for our pets is so expensive?

I’ve seen so many questions and answers saying they dont feed their pets good food because they arent stupid enough to spend that much money

Isnt it only a few bucks more?

and if you cant afford that why do you even have a dog?Why do people think good food for our pets is so expensive? While I do agree with you, people go through good and bad stages financially, so at a certain time they might not be able to afford the best dog food. Or like what happened with us, our dog got really really sick, and we had to spend a lot of our money on medicine for him, so for a month or 2, we had to feed him lower quality dog food to afford the medicine during his treatment. He didn't seem to care, and his health stayed the same as before. Why do people think good food for our pets is so expensive?I have a dog and I spend 30 dollars for a 16 lb. bag. It is expensive but it is worth it. The cheap dog foods actually cause my dog to vomit because of the horrible fillers they use in them. I too think that if a person is not willing to take good care of their pets, they really shouldn’t have them. This goes for those who like to tie their dogs up outside as well. They are pack animals and need to be with other living beings. It is terrible to think of the isolation many of these “pets” face because people just want to have one.Why do people think good food for our pets is so expensive?People are ignorant, and they just don't care, then there are the kind, that think, cats %26amp; dogs are just animals, and anything I feed them is fine?? I don't get it either... There is one guy on this site, that says he only feeds his GSD bread, and a little meat every once in a while, WTF??? I don't know??????

What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?

I am looking for a pet and was wondering if anyone knew any good pets for apartment life. I like rabbits and animals like that...any suggestions?

No fish, dogs, or cats please. (:What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?Kate, let's see if I can help you decide. There are many pets that are entirely appropriate for apartment living. After conducting some research and following the steps below, you should have a better idea of an appropriate pet for you.

Step 1: Check your apartment bylaws, rules or regulations. Your apartment might have restrictions on certain types of pets, or they might require that you have an extra deposit or a monthly fee in addition to your rent.

Step 2: Do some soul searching. Think about your lifestyle and your motivation for wanting a pet. If you live in an apartment because you travel a lot and like the low maintenance aspect of apartment living, think about what types of pets can be left alone for periods of time. Think about how much time away you spend from home on a day to day basis and consider how that affects your choice of pet.

Step 3: Examine your indoor space. Do you have the room for a large saltwater aquarium? If you adopt a puppy, do you have the ability to isolate him to a utility room if necessary? This is also a good time to think about odors associated with some pets. Do you have a well ventilated area that would be appropriate for a kitty litter box?

Step 4: Examine your outdoor space. Do you have a balcony apartment or a garden apartment? Is there a common area to take pets in order to play and exercise? Your outdoor space is also a consideration when thinking about how your pet will need to relieve himself.

Step 5: Think about renters adjacent to your apartment. If you have thin walls and a chirping bird, you might not have the best combination. If you live above quiet tenants, they might not appreciate the romping and jumping (and barking) that often occupies a puppy's day.

Step 6: Pet sit for practice. Once you decide on an appropriate pet to add to your home, try to pet sit someone else's loved one. Pet sitting for a week or so should give you an idea of the responsibilities, challenges and rewards of owning a pet as an apartment dweller.

That said, here's 6 specific suggestions:

Pot-Bellied Pigs- While slightly destructive at times, Pot-Bellied Pigs can be as easy, if not easier to train than dogs. They're playful, curious, caring, surprisingly odorless, and they don't bark. Natural "rooters" and highly intelligent, these pets can get quite stubborn in their desperate search to feed their addiction to food, learning to open cabinets, drawers, bins, and find their way into making a real mess of the kitchen. Keeping food locked up is only a fraction of commitment to caring for these lovable little oinkers. Pot-Bellied Pigs may require much care, financial, and time commitment, but make an extremely fun pet and incredible family member.

Hedgehog- Although not a very social animal, a tamed hedgehog can make a nice furry friend. With a life-span of 4-6 years, Hedgehogs are relatively easy to care for and are easy to feed with high quality cat food. When they feel threatened these animals will roll into a ball, poking out the prickly spines on their back. These spines are not a big danger, but getting a hedgehog used to human handling is one of the biggest steps in making them comfortable and you avoiding getting poked. A seemingly quiet animal, they don't require a lot of attention and are great at entertaining themselves.

Chinchillas- Pets don't get much softer or cuddlier than one of these very soft, furry creatures. Like most exotic mammals on this list, if handled from a young age Chinchillas bond very closely with their human owners. For a smaller animal they have quite the extensive life span, lasting about 15 years. An active and playful animal by nature, having a spacious cage and many toys available for the Chinchilla will add to their happiness and natural comfort level. Surprisingly, these little guys bathe in dust to keep their coat silky and smooth, so having a dust bath is a necessity. Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that an animal can bathe itself in dust to maintain a clean, shiny coat of fur?

Ferrets- A very mischievous animal, Ferrets can be highly entertaining. One of the more common animals on this list, Ferrets are known to sleep long hours (up to 18 hrs/day) and be very active during dawn and dusk. Most will adapt their sleeping and active times to fit that of their owner's schedule. While they do have a reputation for having a musky smell, Ferrets are typically fixed and descented before being sold. Ferret owners should always try to be aware of the whereabouts of their pet as a ferret's curiosity can lead it anywhere in the home. Living roughly 6-8 years, Ferrets make a really awesome and extremely fun apartment pet.

Prairie Dogs- One of the most social, playful, and active animals on this list, Prairie Dogs can make incredibly fun pets for an apartment. If trained very young to be around humans, these furry creatures become affectionate and very caring to their owners. With this need for affection, they require a good amount of attention. Feeding on rabbit pellets, hay, and the occasional treat, it's fairly easy to keep a Prairie Dogs' belly full. Make sure to have many chewable toys available as they do like to chew on things and you don't want them to chew on you.

Sugar Gliders- This is the ultimate apartment pet. Sugar Glider's are extremely social and bond naturally with their human owners. This in mind, these animals do require quite a bit of daily attention and interaction as without it they can at times become depressed or even die. A marsupial, the Sugar Glider is quite comfortable hanging out in a shirt pocket all day, cuddling close to its owner. They are a very endearing and non-aggressive pet that typically lives 12-14 years, so will make a wonderful long time pet that'll connect well with its owner. Being small, fun, and easy to care for makes the Sugar Glider the perfect apartment pet!

Hope this helps! What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?
Chinchillas are a good small pet, or if it's legal where you are, a squirrel makes a super entertaining and sweet pet. Sugar gliders are another good option too, they require a lot of your attention and companionship, so two might be necessary. Pot-bellied pigs are really great apartment pets, they are clean and quiet and easily trained, but can get bored fast so they need a lot of stimulation. What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?Hi, I own guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and mice. I would recommend rats or guinea pigs or rabbits. They all prefer the company of two (of the same species, also the same gender!)

    Guinea pigs:

Guinea pigs are loving and have great personality but they can be a bit messy. they love their veggies and can be very vocal.

    Rabbits:

Rabbits can be dirt box trained and are loving but not all like being held, also they WILL chew.

    Rats:

Rats are sweet, loving, clean and smart. They will learn your voice and will come bounding to the side of the cage to greet you. They will happily roam around and snuggle with you. They can catch colds easily though, but so can all of the above if left above. What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?
I have a bearded dragon... he makes a pretty good appartment pet. Especially since you can leave him a day or two without worrying. Doesn't need a whole lot of attention. Eat veggies once they are adults. All around good pet. What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?I had a bunny for 9 months of living in my apartment. Now I'm back home with him and moving to another apartment in about 4 months with him.

So bunnies are great for apartments. What are good apartments pets, besides cats, dogs, fish, etc.?
    Ferrets, rats, rabbits

Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom?

While keeping dogs as pets in home the pet lovers never allow them to have sex with their opposite sex. Some people even remove their pet's sexual organs. By doing so these pet lovers are really hurting them by preventing their most pleasurable enjoyment. Pets are allowed to live in a corner of house while pet lovers enjoy their sex in their posh bedroom. Are these people are real animal lovers?Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom?have you ever seen a pack of abandoned wild dogs run down a deer or been to a dog shelter knowing that over half of them will get the needle. spay and neutering pets is the right thing to do.Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom?
Well for your info their sexual organs are not removed. The penis and vagina are intact. It is the internal parts that carry the egg and semen, that are removed.

Also if humans did not step in and do these things the world would be so over populated with cats and dogs humans would have no room to survive.

Go troll some other forum.Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom?no, humans and dolphins are the ONLY animals that have sex for pleasure. All the others only do for reproduction. So, no.Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom?
Ever been to high-kill shelter? I'm betting not.

I'd rather have my dogs fixed than be responsible for the death of dozens of dogs.Keeping dogs in captive as pets are we not denying their sexual freedom? Are you being serious? LOL!!! Dogs have the instinct to pro-create... they don't get pleasure out of sex like humans do. Silly person.

Do you have a Plan for Evacuating Pets?

Nevermind that it's bad enough to evacuate ourselves, but what about our pets? I had never thought about it. Two years ago a train derailed and we were forced to leave our house. We had to leave the pets behind due to our lack of planning. Looking back, I could've had the Kids cages ready and somewhere to go. Now, we have a plan in place. But back then we didn't. As many people these days I find myself barely making the bills, let alone being able to buy food for myself. Now I worry about do I buy for myself and not my pets? They are like my children and giving them up to a shelter is inconceivable to me. I know that there are some food banks that give food to the needy, but is there anywhere out there that helps feed pets as well?Is there such a thing such as a food bank for pets?Cheers to you to making sure you take care of your pets... my heart's gone out to you - I can't imagine how painful it would be.

There are organizations like this - I'm not sure where you are, but here in Buffalo, NY the organization is called Buffalo C.A.N. (Companion Animal Network). Originally they helped seniors with pet food, making sure that they could keep their pets. Now with the economy as bad as it is, they've expanded to create a food bank for pets. Check in your area - the SPCA or other shelter might be able to point you in the right direction.

Best of luck to you and yours. Is there such a thing such as a food bank for pets?
Yes there called restruants, go to any back door and ask for scraps for your animal. they have buckets full of scraps. i'm sure they will be happy. Is there such a thing such as a food bank for pets?Oh my goodness that is sooo sad! :(

I've decided that if I get in a situation where I have to pick between me or my dog, I'd just share my plate with her. I know it's bad to give them table food (and I never have), but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.

I hope very much that things work out for you. God bless. Is there such a thing such as a food bank for pets?

Also where I live the SPCA will help people with food. It makes more sense for them to give you food then to take in the pets and then they still need to feed them.

I can understand your feelings about not wanting to give up your pets.

How do pets sense a storm is coming?

Everytime I am about to get hit by a thunderstorm or something like that my dog acts very differently. She becomes scared and very clingy....even an hour or more before the storm hits. This is about every time so its not just a coincidence. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this or knows how pets can sense things like this happening. How do pets sense a storm is coming? Many case reports cite instances of animals' behaving in strange ways before any natural phenomena occurs, but few scientific data exist on the matter.

Domestic animals, dogs and cats in particular do have hearing and sensory capacities that are greater than ours.It would not be surprising if they were able to sense these kinds of things better.

Their hearing is more sensitive and covers a wide range of frequency and they have a much better sense of smell.Meteorologists say that storm winds may carry smells from other areas and temperature and humidity differences that are detectable(particularly by animals) far in advance of any actual precipitation, and even human beings sometimes say they can smell when snow is coming. That is especially true of certain kinds of heavy snow storms accompanied by winds. How do pets sense a storm is coming? This is because pets feel the change in pressure. They also protect themselves by going under a shelter. I think that dogs bark when there is a storm coming, but I am not sure.

    Respectfully,

Most animals have better hearing that we do, and they hear thunder long before we can. They also sense changes in pressure; we do too - they just pay attention to it.

Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?

Just had a chicken thigh and my 3 cats just came out of nowhere and were at my feet meowing like crazy. I know its my fault cause i always give in! I cant help it they are so cute!! Do you feed your pets food off your plate?Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating? My dog does this pretty much all the time, when your eating he will literally put his face up to the food, or he will lie down right infront of you and literally give you them puppy eyes until you give in!

Also when he is sleeping and i go to get something to eat he will instanlty hear me rustling in the kitchen and will dart straight through! One minute he's not there and the next he's appears out of nowhere!Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?
well, i have 4 kitties: boo, he's the cool one, has Never cared for and has No interest in human food. kairi, she's the princess, also doesn't like human food and only bugs if i have kitty treats. sarah, she's the old sick one, is Always under my feet and trying to sneak a piece of whatever have (but she is old and slow). cheezeburger, she's the active kitten, used to go crazy when i ate and run right up to the plate and sticks her head into it.. But, she is now 1yr old and has very little interest in it anymore. she grew out of it. good luck with yours! :)Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?MY CAT DOES THIS 24/7! even when i get up and go somewhere else the greedy little queen follows me! she has this self-pitying "feed me, i'm wasting away" meow. her previous owners used to give her pringles and sh*t so she has to go on a diet. i can't even give her FISH for f*cks sake! just this disgusting chicken-flavoured dried pellets :-(Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?
I never feed my cats off my plate, its a recipe for disaster

my cats are always waiting for me when i get home from work and run down the pavement meowing like crazy like they never get fed!

They dont fool me because i know my son feeds them before i get home lolDo your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?Even though your kittens are undeniably cute, I would recommend that you do not share your plate with them. For reasons of hygiene, germs, etc. Be strong! If they are still meowing just distract them with something else.
when i'm at my nans and I eat her parrot says oi oi oi.. lol it can say other words but chooses oi when it wants me to share. then if i don't it bangs it's bell untill i give it some. very annoying, it's spoilt lol. : )Do your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?
i have 2 dogs and 2 cats. i feed the dogs stuff off my plate but the cats just kinda go get whats in the kitchen by themselves and you'll walk in there and theyre eating something
my cat sounds like a car alarm whenever I'm having food so I always end up either chucking something hard at him or chucking him out and it's not even me who gives him food it's my brother he especially likes eating cheese and cake for some reasonDo your pets bug you like crazy when your eating?
no never i have a dog..when i finish i go into the kitchen and place some bits in his bowl which he doesnt get for 10 mins so he knows im the boss pack leaders do not share the food
I have 2 cats and 1 dog. I never give my cats anything. I sometimes give my dog table food but not that often and i put it in her bowl.
My dog watches every movement - food onto fork, tracks the distance from fork to mouth. I give him the pizza crust, and he gobbles it up fast.
No my cat is very picky , she doesn't eat people food. I knew someone who gave their cat tuna and it had an allergic reaction and died before they made it to the vets.
No it's a big mistake i know it seems mean but its the sensible thing to do. If all three of your cat's are begging maybe you not feeding them enough at feeding time.
no its really not good for animals to have table food especially a pet as domestic as house cats they can get really sick my cat died of contortion when i fed her beef bits so dont give in to those innocent faces
I give my cats little bits of pizza crust...I tried giving them bland chicken but they didn't want it. Just be careful of what you give them.
Yes like everytime I go in the kitchen they're right there behind me begging for food!!! yeah your right it is my fault though but sometimes it gets soooo annoying I end up putting them outside lol
hey, yeah they just sit there making u feel bad. sometimes my dogs try to give their paw when i'm eating. needless to say this wouldnt go down too well if it was to land in your plate. : )
yeah my dog and cat sit and look cute when im eating i usually give in to them in the end too x its coz we love our pets so much we spoil them rotten and yeah mine get the plate after me lol
I know!! my baby puppy always stares at me and makes this akward straining..whimper noise from her throat. o.O I give her pieces somtimes. :P hahaha lol Yeueppppp^^
    No because it isnt healthy

    jaja

cats are scavengers so its natural, and no they gone eat off my plate coz thats gross and unhygenic
my ferret and my dog drive me crazy when im eating pizza! i tell them to GET LOST! (not literally though) :)
sometimes, but i dont give him much.

Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?

In my apartment, we have two cats, a snake, three people, and sugar ants. We can't get rid of the ants. We keep the place pretty clean but they wont go away. They drive us crazy! I need them gone, but I love my pets and don't want them to get hurt. Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?Mix together a small jar of -say-mint or a small jar of some other type of sweet jelly with an equal amount of boric acid and place dabs on some small lids like come on those canned potato chips. Put them under cabinets ,the sink, refrigerator, and etcetera. Also, spray ant/roach spray around the outside of doors and windows and at the base of outside walls. Do this at night just after dark. By morning it's dry and won't harm anyone. For fleas that pets drag in, place soapy water in a baking dish with a 2-inch high edge and put a goose neck type lamp over it so the bulb is about 6 to 8 inch above the water. Turn out every light at night except that one. Fleas jump, hit the hot bulb, drop and drown. This requires 2 one-week treatments to catch them all.Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?I don't think boric acid is safe for pets, I bought it in powder form and the bottle clearly says keep away from pets and babies.

Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that pet birds shouldn't come into contact with dogs or cats because they carry a disease which can kill them. Is that right? If so, can rabbits and birds come in contact? I have a pet rainbow lorikeet and in the future I would like to have other pets. Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?Cats (and dogs) have bacteria in their saliva which can kill birds. That said, we have a cat and two birds, it just takes extra care to make sure the other animals can't get into the room the birds are in. Birds are very fragile creatures, and often come out second best in interspecies tussles. :(Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?
i would say its okay to have another pet in the house just try your best to keep them seperated. Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?It is dog and cat saliva that is deadly..not really a disease. I think that rabbits could, but it's risky because birds are very fragile. Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?
No dogs are fine just no cats. Even if your cat simply touches the bird with it's paw,you should take the bird to the vet.Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?I've never heard of the disease issue, but birds can be injured by dogs and cats. They should be introduced slowly and watched constantly. Sometimes the bird will hurt the dog or vice versa. They can co exist, with training and a watchful eye. Good luck
Its not a good idea for other pets to be with birds. Dogs and cats and humans all have things in their saliva that can be harmful to a bird. Rabbits I think would be alright since there is little risk for the rabbit to hurt the bird like with a dog or cat and it isn't going to be licking it or anything else. Are pet birds allowed to come into contact with other pets?
Well I have seen lots of videos of people having birds associating with all kinds of animals.

That being said, it is a bit risky. Even dogs or cats that are good friends with a bird can injure it accidentally or even in playful exuberance. If I had a faithful bird I would not want to chance it coming into physical contact with other animals.

But as far as some deadly inherent disease, I am not aware of any as long as the other pet is healthy. To be sure I would do some extensive research on the Internet.
well, i have 3 parrots 2 hamsters a turtle 2 hermit crabs and about 30 fish...

They are awesome to watch, and the are very active. Watching them chase after their food is the best! Their care isn't difficult or time consuming at all!
