How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
I'm thinking about getting this yellow lab/golden retriever mix, but my mom isn't fully convinced yet. The one I want is 3 years old and 88 pounds. She is worried about his size. He is good on a leash and is good with cats and dogs and small children. He is obedience and house trained. She is worried about money, and his size. What do you guys think? As a professional dog trainer I have trained many of these breeds and find them to be awesome family dogs.
As far as cost and size go, you may have to feed a bit more than a small dog, but you'll find if you buy a quality dog food, which you should for any size dog the amount of food you feed is not excessive. For instance a dog that size would most likely need 1.5 to 2 cups twice a day.

The only thing that you don't mention is if he/she is spayed or neutered and if not then I would highly recommend that you get that done if you go thru this.

As someone else said, both labs and goldens have notoriously "good" personalities. That being said, people have been bitten by both. Any dog with teeth can bite. It depends upon the training that has gone into the dog.

I have a major earwig problem indoors and I need to spray the interior baseboards, even though the exterminator sprayed outdoors twice. I have indoor-outdoor cats, as well as chinchillas who share a cage that rests on the floor (about 6" from the baseboards). I do. I know some people will say I'm stupid but I don't care. I worked in HR for 4 years and I truly think people should get at least one bereavement day for pets. When they are hurt, neglected and even killed...the offender gets a fine or minimal jail time. Anyone who has and loved a pet, knows that they are another family member. In my games of the sims 2 pets, i made my man a werewolf for a laugh. I used a lycanthropy potion in the night when he was a werewolf, he drank it and it looked like he changed back. But he didn't. He still looks like a werewolf however he can not drink any more potions because it thinks he's a human. Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?
i want a kitten badly. someone list reasons why they are cool and awesome pets to have. i want to show this to my mom so she will maybe change her mind.Someone give me reasons why cats are good pets to have?Here is a reason of why cats are good, but word of advice, get a female because they don't spray over everything! :)
1. They are cheaper than dogs, and more worthwhile than rodents.
2. They are cute, and playful.
3. You don't have to let them outside at 3 in the morning, and you don't have to take them for walks. :D
4. They bond with their owner just as much as a dog would, only they show it in different ways!
5. Cats have litter boxes, so even when you are not home they don't have to be looked after. That way you don't have to come home and let them outside.
6. Cats are quiet. You don't have to listen to their barking, or yapping. Just their soft, and cute, meows.
7. If you are worried about your cat at night, just put her in your room, she will end up sleeping with you! :D
8. If you are worried about when you are at home and you don't want her to get on the counters, then take a spray bottle, (not a squirt gun!) and spray her when she gets up there, say a firm "No!" and take her down. She will learn not to get on the counters, they are easy to train!
9. They can be very playful, especially the kittens. All cats are special in there own way. They are so unique, you could never be bored with one.
10. They are independent, and can sometimes do crazy things! But, it is all worthwhile. They will love you to the end, if you are nice, but have some boundaries for them!
11. They are clean! They give themselves baths, so as long as it is an indoor cat, it won't get dirty. No annoying baths! But, make sure you brush it! :)

3. They don't require a lot of work, just the basics, like giving them food and water, a clean litter box, and attention. They basically do the rest by themselves.
4. They are very clean animals. You don't have to worry about giving them baths.
5. They are independent, but loving and affectionate when you want them to be.
Here's some tips on getting the conversation started:
Please rescue a kitten from a shelter, you are saving a life.
They already have their shots, are neutered/spayed, and have a microchip implanted in case kittah gets lost, so you can find them.
Find a time to talk when your mom isnt busy. Try talking about this at the supper table, or maybe while you're watching tv.
Be mature. DONT WHINE OR NAG. this will turn her answer into a definate no.
Bring up those points, and hopefully she will agree.
Also, if you do your homework on kittens and the shelter you plan to get them at, she will most likely agree to this, since you are showing maturity and taking responsbility.

Whats so great about a cat?
1. They are cheaper than dogs, and more worthwhile than rodents.
2. They are cute, and playful.
3. You don't have to let them outside at 3 in the morning, and you don't have to take them for walks. :D
4. They bond with their owner just as much as a dog would, only they show it in different ways!
5. Cats have litter boxes, so even when you are not home they don't have to be looked after. That way you don't have to come home and let them outside.
6. Cats are quiet. You don't have to listen to their barking, or yapping. Just their soft, and cute, meows.
7. If you are worried about your cat at night, just put her in your room, she will end up sleeping with you! :D
8. If you are worried about when you are at home and you don't want her to get on the counters, then take a spray bottle, (not a squirt gun!) and spray her when she gets up there, say a firm "No!" and take her down. She will learn not to get on the counters, they are easy to train!
9. They can be very playful, especially the kittens. All cats are special in there own way. They are so unique, you could never be bored with one.
10. They are independent, and can sometimes do crazy things! But, it is all worthwhile. They will love you to the end, if you are nice, but have some boundaries for them!
11. They are clean! They give themselves baths, so as long as it is an indoor cat, it won't get dirty. No annoying baths! But, make sure you brush it! :)

Here's some tips on getting the conversation started:
Please rescue a kitten from a shelter, you are saving a life.
They already have their shots, are neutered/spayed, and have a microchip implanted in case kittah gets lost, so you can find them.
Find a time to talk when your mom isnt busy. Try talking about this at the supper table, or maybe while you're watching tv.
Be mature. DONT WHINE OR NAG. this will turn her answer into a definate no.
Bring up those points, and hopefully she will agree.
Also, if you do your homework on kittens and the shelter you plan to get them at, she will most likely agree to this, since you are showing maturity and taking responsbility.

None or stuffed. Teens are irresponsible and grow tired of things fast. So I would never buy or get any tee a live animal.

the monitor is happiest when he is out of his tank - he loves exploring and loves cuddles, he's happy when his colours are bright, his tongue is flicking and he's jsu generally being relaxed

I live around inlaws who are all very kind people and one blood relative nearby. However ALL other relatives live faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar far faaaaaaaaar away.

I was looking through good pets to get, and since in California I've noticed a few that aren't allowed here when they are in the majority of states. Do you have a Plan for Evacuating Pets?
Nevermind that it's bad enough to evacuate ourselves, but what about our pets? I had never thought about it. Two years ago a train derailed and we were forced to leave our house. We had to leave the pets behind due to our lack of planning. Looking back, I could've had the Kids cages ready and somewhere to go. Now, we have a plan in place. But back then we didn't. So, if you are forced to evacuate, do your pets have a plan too?Do you have a Plan for Evacuating Pets?I actually have more pets than I could fit on one trip out.. this is because we have pet sheep - horses... donkey.. etc in addition to the cats and pheasants.. so its a lot of carriers - but we do have 3 cat carriers and 3 bird boxes - and a horse trailer (that would still need 2 trips)

As many people these days I find myself barely making the bills, let alone being able to buy food for myself. Now I worry about do I buy for myself and not my pets? They are like my children and giving them up to a shelter is inconceivable to me. I know that there are some food banks that give food to the needy, but is there anywhere out there that helps feed pets as well?Is there such a thing such as a food bank for pets?Cheers to you to making sure you take care of your pets... my heart's gone out to you - I can't imagine how painful it would be.

well, i have 4 kitties: boo, he's the cool one, has Never cared for and has No interest in human food. kairi, she's the princess, also doesn't like human food and only bugs if i have kitty treats. sarah, she's the old sick one, is Always under my feet and trying to sneak a piece of whatever have (but she is old and slow). cheezeburger, she's the active kitten, used to go crazy when i ate and run right up to the plate and sticks her head into it.. My dog watches every movement - food onto fork, tracks the distance from fork to mouth. I give him the pizza crust, and he gobbles it up fast.
No my cat is very picky , she doesn't eat people food. I knew someone who gave their cat tuna and it had an allergic reaction and died before they made it to the vets.
No it's a big mistake i know it seems mean but its the sensible thing to do. If all three of your cat's are begging maybe you not feeding them enough at feeding time.

Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?
In my apartment, we have two cats, a snake, three people, and sugar ants. We can't get rid of the ants. We keep the place pretty clean but they wont go away. They drive us crazy! I need them gone, but I love my pets and don't want them to get hurt.Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?Mix together a small jar of -say-mint or a small jar of some other type of sweet jelly with an equal amount of boric acid and place dabs on some small lids like come on those canned potato chips. Put them under cabinets ,the sink, refrigerator, and etcetera. Also, spray ant/roach spray around the outside of doors and windows and at the base of outside walls. Do this at night just after dark. By morning it's dry and won't harm anyone. For fleas that pets drag in, place soapy water in a baking dish with a 2-inch high edge and put a goose neck type lamp over it so the bulb is about 6 to 8 inch above the water. Turn out every light at night except that one. Fleas jump, hit the hot bulb, drop and drown. This requires 2 one-week treatments to catch them all.Are there any indoor pesticides safe for pets?I don't think boric acid is safe for pets, I bought it in powder form and the bottle clearly says keep away from pets and babies.

That being said, it is a bit risky. Even dogs or cats that are good friends with a bird can injure it accidentally or even in playful exuberance. If I had a faithful bird I would not want to chance it coming into physical contact with other animals.
But as far as some deadly inherent disease, I am not aware of any as long as the other pet is healthy. To be sure I would do some extensive research on the Internet.

They are awesome to watch, and the are very active. Watching them chase after their food is the best! Their care isn't difficult or time consuming at all!
