What type of birds make good pets?

I have owned parakeets and love them. But was thinking of getting a larger bird. The african grey came to mind but reading about them online alot of people say they do not make that great of pets. So was wondering what other types of birds they like and why? What type of birds make good pets? All birds can make good pets, it all depends on the experience level. The bigger birds like macaws and cockatoos require alot of attention, time and patience. Especially when they are vocalizing. African greys are the best talkers in the parrot world and have the learning capabilities of a 5 year old. Just look up Alex the african grey for some info on that. You can also look at the mini macaws like the hawns macaw, or an amazon. the conures are also great and comical birds. You can also try the bigger parakeets like the indian ringneck or moustache parakeet, or the princess of wales parakeet. There are so many out there. What type of birds make good pets?
Caiques are awesome. They are smaller than Greys but larger than cockatiels/green cheeks. They are playful, affectionate, can learn tricks and do this funny thing called surfing. They are not the greatest talkers, but are amazing, fun loving companions. The black-caps cost more but are exactly the same as the regular ones. Altogether awesome bird. They also don't live as long as Greys %26amp; Macaws. Their average life span is 30-50. This will definitely be my next bird. What type of birds make good pets? This Is A Direct Copy From This http://birds.about.com/od/breedsofbirds/鈥?/a> I'm Copying Everything As Is, But I Have To Cut Some Of It Out So Go To The Link, Box Isn't Big Enough!!

This is a list of the Top 5 Companion Bird Species available. Brief descriptions of these popular birds are sure to help potential owners decide which type of pet bird they should buy.

1. Parakeets/Budgies

The common Parakeet, or Budgerigar to be exact, makes a wondeful pet for children or those who are new to keeping birds. These hardy little jewels come in an array of beautiful colors, and require less space and maintenance than larger bird species. They are quite intelligent in spite of their small size, and while most are content to whistle and sing, some have been known to learn a word or two. Average life expectancy is 12 to 14 years.

2. Cockatiels

These medium sized birds are simply a delight to keep. Members of the parrot family, these Australian natives are known for their surprisingly advanced whistling and singing abilities. While Cockatiels are capable of learning to talk, many owners find that their birds prefer to whistle, and tend to mimic quirky, random sounds such as the ringing of a telephone. These birds are available in increasingly diverse color combinations and have an average life expectancy of between 15 and 20 years.

3.Lovebirds

Lovebirds are one of the smallest known parrot species. These beautiful little birds should not be overlooked in favor of larger, more demanding parrots; any Lovebird owner will tell you that these birds possess all the intelligence and personality of the largest of macaws. These birds are fairly quiet companions, making them ideal for those who live in apartments or condominiums. At around 6 inches long, the Lovebird has a life expectancy of up to 20 years.

Ive had a male cockatiel for three years now since a baby, hes very smart. Hes the most lovable pet Ive had, very affectionate, but keep in mind that they need a lot of attention from their owners. He can speak things like, "I love you", his name, makes kissing noises, %26amp; some Spanish! :P He loves to be scratched behind his neck, but I don't know about his behavior with other birds.

Hes cool with other people though, Good luck! What type of birds make good pets?Whatever you do DON'T GET A MACAW! My friend's mom has one and I hate visiting her because that thing squawks the entire time, "PUTA! PUTA" which means whore in Spanish. SO ANNOYING! Get a lorokeet.
