Ferrets are like frisky little cats, but they can smell if you don't keep em clean. What are some cute small pets I could get since I cant have a dog or cat in my apt?
If you've never had a syrian hamster (the big ones), I would recommend one of them. My favorites are black bear hamsters. Pandas are nice, too. They both seem to have much milder temperaments than some colors (different breeds/colors do have varying temperaments!). No matter what a book recommends, I would get an unscented paper-based litter. It's the safest and doesn't need to be cleaned as often.

If you want something more rugged that you can cuddle and play with more like a puppy or cat, maybe ferrets would be good for you. They're bigger than hamsters and have different needs, but can be litterbox trained and MANY people are quite addicted to them! They also play with those cat toys on a stick and are mostly silent (although some make a quiet beeping sound when they are "dancing") .There are a lot of ferrets in rescues because ppl think they're good pets for little kids (no pet really should be a responsibility for a small child... Kids are often too fickle to keep up with it) and then they toss them out. If you get a ferret, please adopt!

Contrary to someone's previous post, rats don't smell if they have a large enough cage and are not left uncared for. Rats don't escape unless their cage is inappropriate (I recommend a ferret cage with appropriate bar spaces) I have 6 little males and they are all clicker trained, potty trained, and know their names. Rats are my alltime favorite small animal. I just wish they lived longer. If you want attentive pets that can learn tricks (their intelligence is similar to that of dogs!), consider a pair of same-sex rats.

No matter what pet you choose, please purchase a good, recently published book and read it first. Get the home and one month's supplies once you are sure this is the pet for you. Purchase the pet AFTER the home is all set up to avoid stress!

Enjoy your new furbaby!
Don't get rats, as they smell, and if they escape they can breed, and you don't want that!! You could keep a bearded dragon, theyre really cool! What are some cute small pets I could get since I cant have a dog or cat in my apt?
If you have some money I would get a sugar glider. They are very cute and adorable, but hard to come by. I love mine, he's so cute and they get very attached and have to be played with a lot. So if you don't have a lot of time to give it attention I would go for another animal. Also try a chinchilla; if you get it from a personal owner they are a lot cheaper and a lot friendlier. I take mine outside all the time in the summer and let it roam around.
i luv red eared slider turtles!!!! they r kewl and they dont really need that much work...i mean it takes about 7 years for them to reach maturity/full grown...i think its great...i have two of them myself, bonnie and clyde...lol...they stay small for a really long time, but when they do get big, they can be bigger than a tiny chihuahua...
hamsters!!!
mice
get a rabbit or guinea pig my daughter has a rabbit and it acts about like a dog but make sure you clean the cage or it will stink
