I'm at my parents' house, and the next door neighbor just walked in. The first thing she said was, "Boy that dog's getting fat."
My mother said, "I know."
When they took the dog to the vet last month, the vet said the dog was X pounds overweight and they need to cut back on feeding it. Such a fast diagnosis, and such a clear treatment plan!
Why the disconnect between obesity in pets and obesity in humans? Why are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans?Great Question! maybe because diagnosing humans is much more expensive and detailed. Why are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans?
because we are too obsessed with political correctness and believe it would hurt someone to call them overweight even if it would help them in the long run.
and people are too lazy to help themselves when their doctor tells them to eat healthier. with a dog, they don't control their own diet while humans do.Why are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans? It's not as easy to treat it in humans because humans have a will of their own. You cannot help someone that doesn't want to help themselves. Pets on the other hand, will eat what ever you put in front of them (at least most of them do) whether it's healthy or unhealthy.
Also, you gotta consider that humans relapse when dieting because many of them are emotional eaters. They eat different things, amounts, and times according to how they feel. If not, look at women. You call one of them fat and you can get them to develop an eating disorder like making a wish to genie when you rub his lamp.
Pets on the other hand, don't have those kinds of quips. If they're overweight then all you gotta do is change their food, feeding amounts and times and take them out for exercise. Why are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans?
cause we're americans
fat
lazy
complain about everything
yet dont do anything about our problemsWhy are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans?Well pets don't have much to do except for guard you or entertain you while living in a country like the US, humans do not even have 30 minutes of free time. So it is more complicated to treat it in humans.
well, you can kinda fORCE pets to loose weight, but you can't, like, feed people less and make them exercise when they get overweight
mine please :)

probably because we are a pets primary source of care and we are responsible for their health... its a lot easier to put a animal on a diet then yourself and if you say "look at that fat dog" the dogs not going to go crying and go raid the refrigerator I have heard plenty of people who have had the doctor tell them they are overweight and need to do something about it but honestly I think everyone just likes food way to much.. and its a lot easier to starve a dog then yourself...
well, we think we own animals and have 100% control over their lives. With other humans it their own choice. People have to understand, having a bunch of regulations for food will not help obese people lose weight. Even if the doctor tells them they need to lose weight no one can force it. It's that persons choice. Why are people so quick to recognize and treat obesity in pets, but not in humans?
Fat animals, like chickens, or birds, can be cute. Fat bastards however, not cute in the least.
