Should a pet tortoise be kept away from other pets?

I was just wondering, if turtles and tortoises can give people salmonella if they don't wash their hands after handling them, can other pets that interact with the tortoise contract it easily as well? What if a small bird sits on top of the tortoise and lightly pecks at it? Can the bird get salmonella? Or if a dog decides to lick a tortoise for reasons unknown, would it contract salmonella as well? Is salmonella bad for all creatures?Should a pet tortoise be kept away from other pets?well if you are worried about your turtle i think you better keep it away from other pets because the other pets might get salmonella or the pets might as happen to kill your turtle but it is very unlikly if the pets are tame to kill your turtle. It would be ok for your turtle to interact with other animals but if you are unsure then i think the turtle should stay away. Hope I helped!Should a pet tortoise be kept away from other pets? Why keep them away from your other pets, mine get along fine with other petsShould a pet tortoise be kept away from other pets?I have had an ornate box turtle since 1990. Since she is a tortoise and lives mostly on land I guess she could sill get it. Just make sure what you feed him is fresh. My tortoise interacts with all my animals and none of them ever got sick. I have a dog, cat, and rats. I did have a bird and a rabbit in the past also and everyone was fine. I would still suggest washing your hands after handling it just to be on the safe side.
