Orange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children?

Do tabby cats make good pets for small children? We just recently got a male tabby, and he is skiddish. We want to have the kitten, and our children adjust, do these cats make good pets for children who are small? and any advice to make the adustments go smooth?Orange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children?young children can be very rough with most animals .. however if you monitor their contact with your kitten and cat then you shouldnt have a problem .. just dont leave them alone with it .. ive had cats sat on .. put in a dryer (not switched on tho) you name it when my kids were younger .. all the cats survived but once treated like that they can become a bit nasty and tend to not like being picked up and fussed aboutOrange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children?
NO pet is a good pet for a child-- All children need to be suprevised around pets.

Children do NOT know their limits when playing or interacting with pets and can inadvertantly or deliberately abuse the poor animal.

Pets will bite and scratch (this is logical!!!) if they feel threatened by anyone-- adult, child, another pet....

Your pet is skittish probably because the kids may pose a threat to him-- kids need adult supervision around pet-- you need to protect your pet(s) from the sometimes over-excited and ROUGH play of children.

Until a child is about 10 or older, and KNOWS how to Properly and Responsibly Care for a Pet -- you need to supervise their interaction with the pet and ESPECIALLY their friend's interactions with the pet(s)-- because you have no idea how cruel their friends might be towards animals.Orange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children?I recently got two kittens from my great-aunt, one male and one female.

About 2 days after I brought them home, they weren't social and hid. Then they went to exploring the house, and then after they new their surroundings they were more social and now love to be petted and held.

EDIT:

Like a lot of other people said, be sure you are around the child when he/she is interacting with the cat.Orange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children?
Color doesn't matter in any cat. Some cats just take better to kids then others. Usually neutered males do, but still take awhile to adjust.

I've had some cats that LOVED kids of all ages and were not afraid of them. Just train your kids in how to properly handle and pet the cat and in time he should be fine with them.Orange Male Tabby, do they make good pets for a household with small children? It depends on his personality. You cannot determine his personality based on the colours of his fur.
