i live in Canton Ohio and would like to get two hens as pets. How do i find out if i'm allowed to have them?How to find out if i can keep chickens as pets?I do not think it is illegal for you to keep a "pet" chicken.But seeing that you want them for egg production,it will be considered as raising the chickens "poultry production",which is all the same still legal.



Local farm houses or barns yard should have available and good egg laying chicken for you.I would suggest the "Rhode Island" and "Leghorn" breed.They are the best egg laying hens in the market.

generally it will depend on the zoning in your neighborhood. chickens are considered 'livestock' not pets. that said, they are fabulous animals. i got them for the eggs but i love their personality and i could really watch them for hours. They are great at keeping the bugs down especially the cicadas we had this summer!
