What is the Catholic Churches stance on humans having pets?Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets? The Church doesn't have any teachings for or against keeping animals as pets.
Since St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, I'm sure it approves of people keeping pets if they take proper care of them.Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets?
The Catholic Church does not prohibit having animals as pets.Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets?Really?
Come on, we went through all the trouble of domesticating them thousands of years ago, we should at least get to keep em' for our hard work...Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets?
Who cares. They are not the authority they set themselves up to be. Follow God and read what He wrote for yourselves rather than allowing a corrupt system to distort it for their own gain.Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets? The Catholic stance is the same as most Christian faiths and that is that God gave man dominion over the animal world as per the Bible.
Gen 1:26 "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the animals, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth."
"Where it wants to live without our intervention" Really. Do you have any idea what the survival prognosis is for a lost cat or small dog? Domesticated animals such as those need our intervention. As long as it is kept care of there should be nothing against it. In decent human care an animal is likely to have a much better life than it would on its own.
Right now my cat is eating food and drinking clean water readily avalible to her. Outside she would be using what little survival instincts domestic cats have to try to catch birds and field mice, both of which can transmit diseases, while also searching for water which is probably contaminated and shelter from the weather. She'd also have to avoid wolves and coyotes that would love to make her a nightime meal. She has a great life under human care and we've never mistreated her, and she's safe. Wouldn't it be more cruel for me to release her to the unknown when she isn't fit for a life of hunting and hiding?Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets?
you can keep pets but why get attached sorry pet lovers .only we get into heaven..that's because we have a soul
animals do not...that's what the doctrine is ..just ask a priest
very harsh but true

As far as animals are concerned, animals serve God by serving mankind, as God gave mankind dominion over the animals for a reason.
When it comes to pets, the Church does not want people to abuse animals, nor keep as pets any animals that are illegal to keep as pets by legal law. That's pretty much it.
%26lt;%26lt;Animal rights activists believe animals shouldn't be treated as a commodity, and we shouldn't have pets because we interfer with the right the animal has to choose where it wants to live without our intervention.%26gt;%26gt;
So?
So what?
These animal activists are so wrapped up in their own world, they refuse to see how much better domesticated animals have it than their untamed counterparts.Does the Catholic Church agree/disagree in allowing humans to have animals as pets?
The Catholic Church teaches about treating all animals with respect but not for or against keeping pets.
God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered. Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants. (Genesis 9:1-3)
The Catholic Church teaches:
鈥?It is a sin to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly.
鈥?It is not a sin to kill animals with as little suffering as possible for food, clothing, and the health and safety of humans.
鈥?Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving of human lives.
For more information, see Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2415-2418 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3s鈥?/a>
With love in Christ.
Why would The Church not want us to have pets?
Though I did not know that about the animal rights activists. That is retarded if we let our animals go free, they won't be able to survive. They will eat our trash and each other, that's why they are domesticated.
Every feast of St. Francis, Parishes around the world hold animal blessings - the local priests bless many types of animals including pets.
In the Old Testament, it says that God created animals for Man's usage. Within this teaching that would include family pets.
Sincerely,
A Roman Catholic
