Why do so many people ask for free pets?

I just don't understand it. There are atleast fifty questions about where can I get a free pet. Most people are asking for speficic free pets, like teacup chihuahua's, german shepherds, or labradoodles. Dogs are a lot of money, the initial expense is just the start of it! Do people honestly expect a free dog to be cheaper in the long run than a dog they have to pay for? Maybe people think it'd be cool to have a dog, even though they don't have any money for one. I get aggravated everytime I see a "where can I find a free dog/cat" question on here and I want to know what is going through these people's minds.Why do so many people ask for free pets?It is why there is such a problem with unwanted pets. People do not bother to work out whether they can afford to own a pet. So many get carried away with the romance of it and when it is too hard/too expensive/too inconvenient they dump the poor little buggers.



My pets are such a big part of my life. They were not cheap to obtain and they continue to be pretty expensive to keep, but I knew this when I got them and, to be honest, the joy they bring makes the cost seem pretty insignificant.



I am totally with you. It aggravates and distresses me to think that there are so many people out there who are so clueless about the cost of owning a pet. Have you noticed how many people post questions about their sick pets rather than just doing the obvious thing and taking them to the vet? I can't help but think this is a symptom of the same thing.



So, to anyone out there after free pets, please make sure your motivation is right and please do your research before taking the plunge. Unfortunately, it is just too easy to dump an unwanted pet. Would you do the same with your children?Why do so many people ask for free pets?
Because people don't want to pay for the shots and treatments that come with the pet. Other than the fees of taking care of the pet. Anyway free pets are not a swing at your wallet.

It is because people are cheep.
Well what you pay is what you get. If you pay top dollar, you will most likey get a top animal, but if you pay low or no dollars, you will most likely get a low good for nothing animal.

Most people don't want to work for something, they want free handouts. That goes the same with every thing else.Why do so many people ask for free pets?

why pay if you can get them for free?

b/c alot of time there are people who is not money

hungry and wants to just get rid of them.
it has been estimated that there are 7 homeless pets per person in the US. With this statistic I can see why homeless pets are so cheap at animal shelters and free from people trying to get rid of them. Where I come from, all cats and most dogs are free.
most people would like to have a pet, but some can afford one so they have hope that maybe just maybe someone is giving away a free dog of a certian breed, besides it dosen't hurt to ask..

People recognize the cost of raising and keeping a dog and by asking for free pet perhaps they are putting that money towards the vet bills, pet supplies, food etc.

Most people are looking to rescue and/adopt animals that people don't want or can't keep anymore not necessarily for a "free" animal rather an unwanted one. Isn't it a good thing for people to want to adopt animals that may end up in a shelter and eventually euthanized?

As a person who has fostered many dogs for over 3yrs I know what these animals are up against and what they have survived. For people to want to give these animals a good, loving and caring "Forever Home" is an honorable thing.

Just because you don't pay the "full price" of $300 and up for a dog/cat from a breeder does not mean that you are not aware of the cost of raising that animal.

Perhaps that's what they are thinking?
Alot 0f times people are animal lovers and cant afford to buy pets because they are very expensive and still want to keep pets so that is the reason
I understand what u r saying, but when they are asking questions like this is is basically useless because after all if someone says o i have a free dog u can have there is like a 5% chance that they are living in the same state maybe not even that. Most of the time I don't agree with what people are saying but this time I must say that you are DEFINITELY RIGHT! I have no clue what is running through those peoples minds, if i were one of those people I would be delighted to tell you but I'm not. I can not wait to see the out come on how people answer this question an hopefully people that ask this question so u can get the ''Real'' answer to ur question.But for now this is all I know.
