Has there been any research or development in veterinary science and medicine to prolong the lives of pets?

We've all gone through the loss of a beloved pet, or inevitably we will at some point in our lives. I was just wondering if there has been any research into trying to prolong pets lives to more match the life-span of humans. It seems that our pets are only with us for a short time in our lives and it would be so much more gratifying if they could remain with us for a greater portion of our lives than they currently do.Has there been any research or development in veterinary science and medicine to prolong the lives of pets?Dogs and cats are never going to live as long as humans. But, almost evey advancement in Vet Science will help prolong a pets life. Vaccines, heartworm prevention, worming, chemotherapy, dental care.....just about everything. Go to a vet teaching hospital, and you will see all that is currently available to treat pets. Many of the same tests and procedures that were once just for people are now available for your pets too.

They can be quite costly, but they are available.Has there been any research or development in veterinary science and medicine to prolong the lives of pets?YES .. and sadly much of it is not acted on..

in many foods they still use ingredients KNOWN to contribute to cancer and shorten pets lives...

BHT, BHA, and Ethoxyquin (used in by-Products) and the By_products themselfs are all linked to health issues...

next to accidents, Cancer is the leading killer of pets...

what is REALLY SAD.. is some of the food sold and promoted by Vets actually contains these bad ingredients (eg. Science Diet is loaded with by_products - and there also Ethoxyquin)
