What kind of parrots make good pets?

I am fifteen years old. i have had a variety of pets in the past some including budgies and love birds. i am thinking of buying a parrot or bird. i need advice on which breed to get and also price ranges as i need to get one that won't bust the bank. I am also looking for one that is capable of being trained. What kind of parrots make good pets?Well any parrot can be trained. I also don't know exactly what would bust the bank for you, so i will give you some easy suggestions. Since you haven't had a Cockatiel, i would first recommend one to you. They are only about $100 tops if you buy from a breeder, and they have very loving cuddly personalities. They are not nearly as much work as larger parrots, and are easier to take care of. They have a good chance of mimicking and can talk. They usually live between 15-20 years.

Another suggestion would be a Conure. There are two popular groups of Conures. The Pyhurra group has quieter smaller easier to care for Conures and the Aratinga has bigger LOUDER and harder to care for birds. I would definitely recommend getting a Pyhurra Conure. Dusky Headed, Black Capped, Green Cheeked (and all mutations), and White Eyed Conure make excellent pets and are very cuddly and clown like. Green Cheeks are usually about $300 each, and the other Conures pricing's range upward from there. They are definitely loads of fun though. They can learn to talk and mimic. The Conures usual lifespan is 25 years +.

One more bird that could work for you could be a Quaker or Monk Parrot. I really don't know a lot about Quakers, but I have heard good things. They are known to have very fun and goofy personalities. But they aren't as cuddly as the two above birds. They like to play, and are pretty good at talking. They can be cage territorial though. They live for around 20 years and up.

I suggest doing some research on each bird to see which one suits you more.

Best of luck :]What kind of parrots make good pets?
It really just depends on your lifestyle and what you can handle.

Like... what do you look for in a bird? Cuddler, great talker, ect?

Many pet cockatoos are there like Sulpher Crested, Moluccan, Major Mitchell, Goffins, Rose-Breasted and Umbrella ect.

The umbrella cockatoos are known to be the most 'rehomed cockatoo' out there simply because of the screaming issues and also plucking behaviour. their screams have been recorded at record breaking decibels equalling a little jet plane taking off. Basically very loud. Yes given that there are many 'quieter' cockatoo out there, I wouldn't ever say any of them 'quiet'.

Read up heaps on each type I give you.

Other birds are, but rememeber all birds make sooo much mess, have the mind of a three to five year old (so imagine... taking care of a toddler for 80 years), all are loud too.

Some birds are great like the Amazons which are great talkers. Blue fronted, yellow crowned, mealy, ect. Also Macaws make great pets, but need a huge cage because of their long tails, Congo African Greys and African Grey Timnehs. What kind of parrots make good pets?At 15, you shouldn't be getting a large parrot. You are going to be having life changes (school, college, marriage, kids) and large parrots are a long term committment. Large breeds have alot of expense with them such as toys that need replaced often, food, and if the bird would get sick, vet bills. I agree that a smaller breed, such as cockatiel or lovebirds would be a better bird to get. Birds bite, are very messy, noisy and they don't always keep a good attitude. What kind of parrots make good pets?
FYI: Budgies and lovebirds are parrots too. I had a parrotlet and now lovebirds. They are great pets. They can be trained easily specially you get them hand-fed. I'm assuming you want a larger parrot? Since you're only fifteen, I would say cockatiel or conure. What kind of parrots make good pets?parrots don't make good pets according to the Humane Society. They can live up to 100 years. Lots of people can't even commit to caring for a pet for two years, let alone 100 years. Plus, cramming a bird in a cage and expecting it to be happy is very naive. What kind of parrots make good pets?
I heard parrots are a life-time commitment since they live a long time. Also they are quite noisy and pipe up with loud squawks now and then that'll make you want to make a chicken dinner out of it. Stick with the small birds.
