No, you cannot own a monkey for a pet in New Zealand.
You cannot even bring one here while you visit, as Micheal Jackson found out when he tried to bring Bubbles into the country.
There are plenty of monkeys in the zoos here though, but even zoos are restricted in which monkeys they can bring in now. See link below. Zoos can only get monkeys/primates that have been raised in a zoo or living in a zoo for a specified period of time and only from Australia or the UK.
Some exotic pets are allowed, most commonly these are lizards, turtles, fish, birds and exotic farm animals like Llamas/buffalo. Some of the animals you may not bring into New Zealand
* Birds
* Reptiles
* Snakes
* Ferrets
* Guinea Pigs
* Mice %26amp; rats*
*Except as laboratory animals
Although it doesn't mention monkeys I HIGHLY doubt you'll be allowed to have a pet monkey.
