How are your pets coping with the fireworks?

MY GOD!! its November 3rd , not November 5th!!! It really pisses me off that fireworks are sold earlier %26amp; the poor pets have to suffer for more than one night.

My cat Willow is so terrorfied he hid up .

Fireworks should be sold on Nov 5 th %26amp; taken out of the shops as soon its all over!!How are your pets coping with the fireworks?I have a three rescue rabbits and a rescue dog. My rabbits are terrified, as is my dog.

My dog came off the streets in Sri Lanka. She lived under a bridge for three years and had sever sarcoptes mange. She now lives with me, but is terrified. Out there in Sri Lanka, loud bangs are dogs being shot. The poor little dog has not left my side.

I would also like to add that I work in animal rescue. My boos who runs the 24/7 emergency call out service, has just responded to a cat who darted across the road in a panic because of the noises, and got hit by a car and killed.

This needs to be stopped. How are your pets coping with the fireworks?
I agree, but I think they should ONLY be available to organised, fully insured events organisers...not from every supermarket and corner shop.

My dogs are fine, thanks for asking. I hope everyone elses are too.

xxHow are your pets coping with the fireworks?Cleo the cat is curled up on the sofa ans doesn't seem bothered in the slightestHow are your pets coping with the fireworks?
I'm having to put music on for my dog to drown out the noise from outside - she is shaking and panting, terrified of the bangs. How are your pets coping with the fireworks?Poor willow. Its best you leave her were she feels safe. Its upsetting to see the poor things so scared. lucky enough my cat is sleeping through the lot.as all ways. if hes ever outside when one goes off hes through the flap like his bums on fire!!!

once in hes fine.
I've got one snoring on the sofa a puppy on the floor by my feet not sure whats going on.

She was all over the place earlier but I've ignored her %26amp; she is now only growling softly every now %26amp; then..

I'm going to walk them in a mo %26amp; see what happens will have a bag of biccies in my pocket.

I ve been lucky all my dogs have behaved in this silly season

Its not all over Divali is next weekend. How are your pets coping with the fireworks?
You're right, my Cat sunny just came out from behind the sofa, the poor thing. We keep our cats inside most of the night around this time. But this is the most fireworks we have had ever! There are loud ones going off this very minute!

Take care little moggies!
Sounds like the Gulf War re-enacted at the moment in our neck of the woods. How are your pets coping with the fireworks?
Oh I totally agree, I think that they shouldn't be so widely available, it really traumatises pets. It would also solve a lot of problems with schoolkids - somebody let one off in our school the other day.

My guineapigs are used to loud noises (there were builders next door for a long time and they are now a lot less jumpy than before.. still dislike the next door neighbors though!), but they still don't like fireworks.

And they live outside, so I had to hurriedly get them in, because some idiots started their display before it even got dark.

Turning the television up and sitting with them and talking to them generally helps.

Hope you and your pets all have a safe few nights,

x
My 10 year old cat is huddled in a cupboard scared out of his wits.He goes to this cupboard every year and needs the door almost closed so it is dark in there. My dogs are constantly barking and confused. It is such a shame for them all.I agree that fireworks should only be available for the day and not sold after.
Totally agree!! My dogs trembling on the sofa with my other half (my dog not my other half!), my cats beside him asleep after we managed to settle him down and i've just got a box down from the loft so i could bring my four 8 week old chicks in from their coup outside as it's so loud out there with all the booms and bangs!
Toots my cat is curled up on the sofa to, To warm to be bothered about the noise outside, feel for the pets that are scared tonight ,want to hug them all. give willow a hug too
They're not happy. Neither am I. Last year those stupid bomb ones went off and one of my dogs bolted and ran across the road and the other just thought it was chance for a run. That was'nt even bonfire night.

Tonight they're sleeping through a lot of it but one totally refuses to go for a walk. Looks like there could be puddles in my household tonight.

They should only be available to organised displays and that would also prevent accidents.
My poor cats are terrified, they are all sitting underneath my desk looking very agitated, Gizmo literally jumps everytime a firework goes off. x
1st dog i had was deaf when i bought a Labrador pup because the older dog did not react to the fireworks nor did the lab now i have second puppy to replace the 1st dog and because the lab s not bothered the pup is not so i would say it's how they and you re-act
The cats are very skittish and are staying in the middle of the house away from the windows. I actually think that because the firework season seems to go on so long and because people let them off for so many other reasons these days, all year round, the cats are more settled than I remember from years ago, when you practically had to stay with them the whole time.
My dog is absolutly petrified! she runs into the darkest room in the house and wont even come out for food! I think that people should be more considerate. I know that they want to have fun, but so does my dog!
my dogs are shitting themselves!! but there going off tonight because the 5th is a weekday and they know they wont get as much viewers! ive just came back from a fireworks display, it was really good my dogs are settling down now!!
i'm looking after a friends two labs and one of them was trembling last night as fireworks went off. so tonight we stayed in with them instead of going to the village display, and they were ok, werent too keen to go out to the loo tho,,,,,,, the dogs not me lol
Completely agree Wendy yeah and only the 3rd too. So far we've had two nites of it and tonight it sounded like a world war out there. I like them my self but hate the distress they cause - do they have to be so loud ?

Alfie and Jax My two chinese crested litter brothers are fine but their younger adopted sister Angel hates them but this is our third year together and I pop a cozy cushion behind and armchair in the corner of the room and this year she just hops round there when it gets too bad.

So our solution is confined, comfy space no mollicodling

Every best wish to you both.
last night threr was a Huge bang, one of the neighbours i think, my cat was on my lap, she leapt off me(after the claws dug in...aw)she flew across the room and hid under the table, there are fireworks going off as i write this by the way

as for them only been sold on the 5th, i disagree, i LOVE fireworks, but i have to admit, some are loud, things like roman candles and small bangs are fine, and mabe a big bang for your last firework for you grand finale, if more people went to organised events there would be less bangs, just one lot!!
hi wendy, this is blue, i have 2 dogs my basset hound is 1, he keeps barking at them, and my baby rottie, he is 12, weeks old is scared, he is sitting by me shivering, because he dont know what is going on
well about an hour ago mine had pissed all over my kitchen floor
My pets are coping with the fireworks fien..They just have trouble getting them out of the box!
Good question. I think cats just have to cope with it, i know its cruel, but theres not much we can do about it. Just give them a cuddle %26amp; stroke them, then you can reassure them that they'll be ok.
My cat hides under the stairs and my dog runs off and hides behind the curtains in the lounge. I think there should be a law against having fireworks until bonfire night itself
Holly, my Staffie is absolutely terrified. Last year we got some pills from the vets but she was so drugged up it was horrible to see.

Last night we sat outside and watched next door but ones firework display. Holly was indoors and just would not come out. I thought I might be able to acclimatize her to the sounds, gradually. NO WAY!

She was still distressed when we came in but not as much as I thought. I realised that our reaction to her being distressed was probably feeding her reaction.

There is still a week to go because, locally we have a display on the 10th. There is no way I will drug her again, I think we will just ignore her and not show her that we are worried.
