How can I keep my cat out of front window? No Pets Allowed at new apt.?

I have to move into a new apartment where pets are not allowed, but I MUST bring my cat. I need ideas on how to keep him from sitting in the front window. I thought I could put some bitter orange stuff that keeps animals away from things on the window sill, but any tips would be sooooo appreciated.How can I keep my cat out of front window? I don't blame you for wanting to smuggle kitty into your apartment, but I'd advise against it. It can do all kinds of damage to your reputation and your credit rating if you're evicted. Don't like it - find a new place that allows cats. Play by the rules.



For the time being board your kitty with a friend until you can find a new apartment. We didn't have to worry about the front windows, but we did have to worry about a huge slidding glass door. It had on those vertical blinds, so I took and duck taped them together, on the inside, so he couldn't get in and then so you couldn't tell they were duck taped, I hung long thick curtains and you never knew and we kepts the other windows blinds closed and curtains on them, he never bothered getting in the others. i had that problem many times, i refused 2 get rid of my cat. U could always try tackin ur curtains down. use plastic if u have 2, landlords normally find out 1 way or another. ask if u pay extra if it would b a problem, or if u had a paper sayin u need 2 have this pet by a counlser if it would b ok. my last apt didnt allow pets. i asked about that paper n she said ok. I went to a counsler and i got 1. my landlord didnt know n i lived in my 1 apt for alittle over a yr. if u need more help pls email me- thatsspoiledangel2u@yahoo.com

cats have smell so its very hard 2 try 2 hide from a landlord. they have things out in petstore that can fix or temp fix the problem.How can I keep my cat out of front window? What are you going to do if the landlord has to come into the apartment when you're not home? If there's an emergency, like a busted pipe etc. they're allowed to go in to fix it without your permission....just something to think about.

Bitter orange is only going to work if you cat LICKS the window sill. Not likely going to work. You can keep obstacles in front of there, or just keep shooing her down till she gets the point. Squirt guns work sometimes. In any case, I hope you're ready to lose that cat or pay a hefty fine. Apartment owners are not stupid.

try double sided sticky tape on where you don't want him he won't like that.try that plastic bubble wrap or try simple plactic bags most hate that.
Put double stick tape on the window sill. Cats hate anything sticky on their paws and he will avoid that window like the plague! :)

Put something between the screen and the glass panes that would block your kitty's view. This may also prevent you cat from being noticed by your landlord.
Hi I am a landlord myself and we do monthly non call inspections for pets. if they have one it is noticeable by food, litter box and smell. The landlord will have a right to evict you on non compliance of your lease. Do you really want that on you for when you look for another apartment? You should want good references not bad ones. I would look for an apartment that accepts pets and then it would be easy on you and your giving them the freedom to roam. Good Luck.
I would find another apartment, if landlord sees the cat, you'll lose a lot, and most likely have to find a new home for kitty. Rather get one that allows cats.
You could try aluminum foil as well. Or duct tape set upside down so that if he steps on it it'll stick... they hate that feeling. Plus the good old squirt bottle will do the trick a lot of the time.



Our landlord doesnt know about our cats either, so I'm with ya.
put cat nip and treats in another window. Move to an apartment with out this stress. And put up window foil so the sun dosn't hit the window sill. He will go to the spot the sun hits.
you can put a piece of cardboard or paper..something taped up to where your cat cant be seen at all...cats love windows and they will die there if they can..thats about the only way unless u have some pilows or something that willfill up the space so the kitty cant sit there.
I used to be in the same boat as you. If you're on a main level, put big plants in front of the windows outside. Around holiday time, I used to spray that fake stick-on snow on the bottom of the window, about 2-3 feet. Festive. Functional.
How about - finding a different apartment? Because if you get found out, you will either be evicted or your cat will have to go.



Why go into a lease (which is a legal contract) knowing that you're going to violate it from the start?

Well, we were in the opposite situation. We had the no-animals-allowed apartment then rescued a kitten. When we were home, we would play with him and give him tons of attention. When we left, we'd put him in our bathroom w/food, water, litterbox. We did this for 10 months until our lease was up then moved to an apartment that allowed pets with a deposit. He was worth it, though, as that was almost 10 years ago and he's our favorite of (gulp) five cats!!! Oh, and we're in a big house and not in an apartment any more.



If you can't stand locking him up when you're not there, the double-sided tape is a great idea that works and will keep him off surfaces on which he is not allowed. This works on counter-tops and tables, too. There is also a cat repellent sold in pet stores like PetCo that you can spray in the general area, but it wears off in a few days and you have to keep spraying the area repeatedly.



Powdered cayenne pepper keeps cats and other animals out of an area. Maybe if you put an open container (or several) of it on this window sill, he'd stay away.



One more thing, my cats stay away from the air-freshener plug-ins. They especially don't like the flowery and apple cinnamon scents. Too bad they don't have a "turkey dinner" scent you could put somewhere else to attract the cat away! Hey, that brings me to another idea -- cat nip in another area to lure the cat away from the window sill.

try and cover the window in a way the cat cannot get up to the seating.As for the people asnwering to get anothe appartment, we don't know anything about the circumstances here..let's just stick to waht we know and try and help?

Another option might be to offer an additional deposit for any possible damage if you are in a position to do so.If you can't be mindfull of kitty litter smell.neighbours might rat you out.There is a litter on the market which can be flushed throug the toilet, try that.Good luck!!
Some people use this plastic covering over their windows to help with heating and cooling costs. It covers the whole window, and the ledge depending on the design, and makes it impossible for a cat to get up there. You could try this!
Just like car windows that have been tinted-you can see out but people can't see in. go to store or hardware to buy.
You can buy a screen to cover the windows, and then they will just think you like shade and privacy, a lot of people do that here. Or, put something there so the kitty can't jump up to the window, and have nothing nearby it can sit on. Make a side window luxurious so the kitty wants to be there instead. If you have the shades, it can sit at any window of course. It is the best thing to do to keep this cat, since there are already too many needing homes, and this cat feels like it is your baby.
