I think any animal label as exotic is not a pet.

To me snakes are not pets.

When I think of pets, I think of dogs or cats or small animals, like rats or guinea pigs. I agree that snakes are not pets, as do I say the same thing when it comes to fish as well. I think these types of animals are kept as hobbies rather than pets. That does not however mean that those keeping them as hobbies don't have the same passion or care for them, they just do in a different sense. I own many kinds of fish, however I don't really consider them my pets, rather I think of aquarium keeping as a hobby of mine, sort of like baseball card collecting. As such none of my fish have been named, that is what you do with a pet. I think the same goes for snakes and all other reptiles and aquatic animals. That doesn't mean I don't care about my fish, It just means I have a passion for them in a different sense. I also think part of this has to do with what you think of when it comes to hobbies as well, you have your amateurs and you have you avid collectors, those starting out and those with years of experience and collecting. In the dog or cat world you have your dog and he is a great pet, maybe your friend has a dog too, but if you think about it, is he really any more qualified to have dogs more than you are, not really since they mostly require the same thing. In the reptile and aquatic world though, there are many things to consider, especially since you have to control the environment for them since they are obviously not in a place they normally would be, really a dog could survive anywhere, but different snakes require different environments, same with fish and other reptiles, some are easier to keep other are harder, thus the amateur, and pro sense comes into play since the amateur wouldn't really have much knowledge on keeping more exotic reptiles and fish.What ANIMALS are SOLD AS PETS but SHOULD NOT be KEEP AS PETS in your opinion?

I dont think birds should be kept in cages that are tall and do not allow flight room.. but let me suggest two animals that are NOT allowed as pets in most areas.. but should be!

They are social species which need to live in groups with their own kind, never on their own with humans.What ANIMALS are SOLD AS PETS but SHOULD NOT be KEEP AS PETS in your opinion?Any animal that can become seriously dangerous, like aligators, etc. I also think that many people are fools when it comes to getting pets, especially exotics. They love the idea of having this particular animal so much, however when it comes to actually doing the work that is involved they loose interest in the animals..of course this happens with every day domestic animals too.

I don't mind ppl having snakes, however it drives me nuts that ppl will release them into the wild once they get bored of the pet! Terrible!

I am not so judgemental as to pass judgement on what other people consider loving and lovable companions. So long as a person can care for the animal, in terms of space, finance, enrichment and nutritional requirements, its none of my goddamned business what they keep as a pet.



I hate seeing people treating monkeys like human babies and keeping bobcats in tiny enclosures in their gardens, but that does not mean there aren't individuals out there who are suitably qualified to take care of these animals. i think some snakes are ok.. i dont think sugar gliders, hedge hogs, salt water fish (lion fish, puffer fish, and other salt water fish) chamilions should be kept as pets.
Exotic animals (like a monkey) I believe are NOT pets. Simple.

I am sorry, but I don't feel any wild animal should be kept as a pet. To many people are getting squirrels, snakes, lizards, tigers and so on. These are not pets and should never be kept as one.



But people are stupid, they get these animals as cute babies and when they grow up, they can not control them.

A wolf is not a pet either.
