How do pets learn their name?

A lot of us have pets. What I seem to find interesting is that pet's learn the name you give them (like my two cat's names are Chassee and Cupid). But these animals don't know our language! And if they don't know our language, how then, do they learn the names we give them?How do pets learn their name?Repetition and reward. If you call their name, they come and you treat them with a treat or a pet..they will learn quickly. My dog will come to just about anything I call her, as long as I say it in the cheery tone I use just for her...fluffy-butt, muppet...schmoopy.
