The law has made great leaps when it comes to traditional pets, even making dog fight a federal offense. But pets are still seen as property. When they are hurt, neglected and even killed...the offender gets a fine or minimal jail time. Anyone who has and loved a pet, knows that they are another family member. Yet their considered no more then a piece of property? What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?Would be nice to have a legal reconition of the concept that pets are worth more than the price of a "replacement" pet. BUT
One of the worrysome implications of changing that could be the possiblilty of getting court ordered treatment - forceing an owner to bankrupcy to pay for expensive surgery and possibly low sucess rate on a pet. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?
There would be a whole lot less cases of bestiality
But the amount of times it occurs would increase. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?i hear ya they should make stiffer laws for pet abusersWhat do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?
i don't think it would be much better. i think there needs to be a recognition that animals are important and that they are living breathing feeling beings, but animals cannot really ever have rights. they should have the right to not be abused, the right to not be neglected, but since they cannot speak for themselves it could be very dangerous to call it animal rights. just remember that some pit bulls are being saved because they are property. What do you think would happen if pets were seen more then just property in the law?I think that people would be charged for murder or attempted murder if they abused an animal. I think it is the way it should be. To be, they do have feelings, they are livings beings just like people.
