So I want people to post WHY its bad to get pets as gifts, and if someone really is determined to get a friend a puppy/kitten or what ever, what should be done to ensure the animal will not be abandoned after.
This question is to try and get people who gift pets to realize WHY animals make bad gifts, and why they should talk with the person they are gifting about the animal before hand. What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts? The biggest reason is that it's inconsiderate. If I truly want a pet I will select the animal myself. Nobody should take that experience away from me. It's also not up to anyone else to decide when and if I am ready for a pet. I usually talk about wanting to get a new animal months ahead of time, that doesn't mean I'm prepared for one at that moment.
Besides that you are basically giving someone the gift of hard work, expense, and responsibility. I really don't see how anyone could think their friend or family member would appreciate it.What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts?
People may not have been expecting or even want the pet. This often leads to neglected animals who are allowed to basically waste away, or they end up in shelters, or they may even release the pet into the wild which is illegal and dangerous.
It is also a bad idea for carnivals to give out free goldfish or other animals like turtles as prizes. People are thrilled to get something for free, but when they hear it will cost over $100 to properly house this new pet, people often try to give them up on the spot.
Acquiring a pet should be a personal decision. You know if you have enough time, money, space, and love to give to an animal. People should never make that decision for someone else. What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts?in my opinion getting a pet as a gift is not a good idea. picking out a pet is something that i know i want to do for myself. The person that you are giving the pet to may not be ready for it or may not be happy with the one that is picked. When we got my aunt a dog for christmas she knew that we wee giving it to her, she didnt actually get to see the dogs that we were picking him from because she lived a ways away but we went and looked at them and then told her about them and she made her decision from there.
If you just pick a petfor someone as a surprise there is a good chance the animal will be abandoned. What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts?
I don't like to get pets as gifts unless it's for like, your kids. The receiver can be surprised and may not even want the animal. If the person REALLY wants a pet, but is not financially able to buy it, then I think it's okay to get it as a gift after telling them that you are getting them this. But really, I wouldn't get them a pet unless they asked for you to get them one. What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts?they don't have the money or time for it, they don't really want it, a lot of people breed animals around the holidays, which leads to unhealthy unwanted pets on the streets
its a HUGE burden. To take care of an animal they have to be loved, need food, water, safe shelter, and regular vet visits. someone who wants a pet has to be prepared to do all of this and more. What are some reasons not to get people pets as gifts?
The receivers will have to spend THEIR money and usually aren't educated in the animal.
