What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?

I mean, dog and cat food (whether people know it or not) has meat or animal products in it so what do they feed their pets? Just curious how that works. What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?I buy my dog food from a Texas company that makes the food from only American sources (so I don't have to go thru the NIGHTMARE of thinking that my dog might be POISONED by supposedly 'good dog food' again) that is totally organic and does indeed have meat within it.

I pay thru the nose for it - but cheaper than all the tests that they ran when I they had the dog food scare last year. What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?

I don't feel comfortable feeding my cats and dog a vegan diet because I don't know enough about what nutrients they need, etc. I do buy organic food though :/What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?urm im a vegetarian and i feed my per, animal food lol
They feed them whatever they feel is appropriate.

Some feed them regular food, some feed them vegan food, some feed organic no-byproduct food. Mine are raw-fed non-factory farmed animals.

Maggie: I don't support the BARF Diet, it's still not biologically approriate, although it's better than a manufactured pet food diet. BARF feeders add fruits and veggies and other unnecessary supplements into a BARF diet because they're still semi-brainwashed into thinking animals need to eat all the same food groups we have in our pyramid. What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?
all canned and dry foods contain meat and /or animal by products, needed for a proper diet for dogs and especially cats.
I don't have any pets.

However, if I had a cat (my pet of choice if I had to have one) I would feed it meat because cats are naturally carnivores. Human beings are omnivores and can CHOOSE to eat a plant-based diet - a cat needs to eat meat, we don't. We choose to.

You should look something up called the BARF diet (I know the acronym is awful but it's actually a very healthy diet to feet cats and dogs... it's basically making your own cat or dog food and making sure only the finest ingredients go in).

Most commercial pet food is slaughter by-product, the worst of the worst cuts of meat, the stuff they couldn't even try to sell to people (and some pretty sick stuff makes it to the meat section of the store - look up how much arsenic is legally permitted in your chicken breasts, or whether animals with tumors, open sores or cancer can still be slaughtered and sold for human consumption). What do vegetarians/vegans feed their pets?
There are vegetarian foods available for dogs, as dogs are omnivores and can eat just about anything.

Cats, on the other hand, are carnivores. So it's not recommended to try to put your cat on vegetarian food. They need meat to survive.
If it's an option, the best would be to have a vegetarian pet. I've kept rabbits for quite awhile, and they are wonderful pets. They're littler box trained, mostly have the run of the house, and with some foresight and understanding, I find them just as much a companion as a dog or cat.
regular animal food. i'm vegetarian. i don't force it on my husband, kids, or animals. it's my choice, i'm doing what's most healthy for myself.
I feed my Maddie organic cat food.

Though I understand that it has animal meat and such in it, I don't exactly think that she'd be eating plants and flowers if she was an outdoor cat.

Since she's an animal; she was meant to eat that and that's what I give her.
Lol...That's a good question.
i'm a vegetarian and i feed my cats cat food (meat). that's what wild cats eat in nature and it's pretty much the only food they can eat, since they are not omnivores. i find it very disgusting, but what can you do?
Excellent question. I await intelligent, informed answers!
