How do I retrieve my stolen pets?

I got very ill and had a friend hold my pets. He was having difficulty watching them and his coworker said he would watch them. Instead, he is keeping them and won't return them. I have a detective looking at the case, but it seems to be dragging. I don't even know the man's name. How can I get them back? The man was even told that I was fighting for my life and I'm now disabled due to this fight, but he says his children are used to the pets now. You can phone the police for this. Those animals are your 'property" and are stolen !
