How do I keep my pets off the counters?

How do I keep my pets off the counters? I have a dog and two cats... They shed enough on the floor so I really don't need or want their fur on the furniture and counters as well. Not only that, but animals have germs on their paws haha (hey, it's not like they wash 'em in the sink with soap!) Please help! I get really grossed out when I see one of them on top of something and I IMMEDIATELY start sanitizing EVERYTHING... I'm going insane. How do I keep my pets off the counters?I was always very kind and respectful to my animals, but if my cat ever jumped on the table, instantly I would command in a strict and loud and serious tone of voice "GET DOWN", its no time for being pleasant. It learned not to go there, without any physical or chemical action. I was like Godzilla roaring and the sound negative-reinforcement scares the cat to realize that is one thing that would make a kind man very upset and serious and its not allowed. It worked for me.How do I keep my pets off the counters?

a sharp but not abusive slap to the head...they will get sick of getting hit so they will stop doing that..How do I keep my pets off the counters? You can actually install Invisible Fence inside the house, so you can do that if you want to invest in that. Also you can put stuff they hate up there...

A method i found to work: Take scotch tape (or something close to it thats easy to tear off the pet and counter) and put it sticky side up, (make it into a loop ) and stick it all over the counters where the pet jumps up. The pet jumps up there and the tape gets stuck to its paws, which is very uncomfotrable they tend to jump down and try to take it off. I leave it on for a minute or so just so they know whats going to happen if they do it again. Replace the tape any time you need to. This is a safe and effective way for both human and pet.
